Adam watches Paul walk away and wonders why he isn’t invited along. How hard would it be? He almost calls out for Paul to wait up when Lewis pins him with a hateful gaze and says, “So much for being a rockstar.”
“Shut up,” Adam growls. So he f****d up this time. He doesn’t have to say it—everyone knows already, right? They keep reminding him, so what’s the big deal? Mike will talk to Trace. He’ll have time to cool down and he’ll come back. They’ve bickered before but have always managed to stay friends. He will be back. Adam’s sure of it.

As he rises to follow Paul, Lewis asks, “Did he say he wanted your company? Because I didn’t hear him say your name.” With a shrill whistle, he calls out, “Come here, boy. Come here.”
