I clutch the side of my dress as I step down from the car.
Kendra rushes towards me with a concern in her eyes, like she was waiting all day at the door to see me.
“Are you alright? I'm so sorry this happened to you” she questions, as she eyed me from my head to toe like she was making sure I was fine.
“I am okay… But” I hesitated, words dying inside my mouth.
When I woke up this morning, Mateo was gone. Zeke and Carlos were there to pick me up whenever I was ready to leave.
I did question them asking where Mateo was because the last thing I remembered was the way his body had held on to me, the way I had eased in his presence.
I remembered clutching on to him, I could still fill his scent on my skin, the missing warmth.
