“I gave up war long ago.” There was something about Conall I liked, and something about him that made me wonder. Was he hiding something? Why wouldn’t he explain the lack of books? David interrupted my thoughts. “He is in constant pain.” Conall frowned. “Old people have pain everywhere. My time’s fading, that’s all.” “Let me have a look.” I motioned him to sit at the bed. “The boy could only convince me because I wanted a glimpse at the slànaighear all the kids are yelling about,” Conall responded with a wink to Samuel while sitting down.
