The sound of shuffling muddy leather boots and heavy metal cuirasses filled the barracks as over a dozen soldiers quickly filed into the room. A buzz of incoherent conversations filled the air as the soldiers removed their armor, some tossing their worn gear on their beds while others carefully placed the gear on thick, cross-shaped wooden armor stands sitting at the heads of their beds. The barracks was a long, shabby wooden building with barely kept-together straw padded beds lining each wall. There were several lanterns hung down the center aisle of the room but no windows, creating a bright but depressing atmosphere that was only alleviated by four open doors letting in orange evening twilight.
