Constant attendance by physicians and nurses was more than enough reason to wish for life in the Haversham household to return to normal. Victoria firmly believed this when faced with yet another visit, and she made plans to do just that every time they took her temperature, examined her skin, and asked after her bowel habits. No member of the household was spared the repeated indignity and frequent intrusions.
Her resolve to bring the entire frustrating episode to a close usually lasted until she returned to her workroom to fetch the antidote for the illness spell.
