Chapter18: The Genesis of Entropy

The golden radiance, like a receding tide, slowly ebbed from Lu Shang's form, yet the aura of divine power and might lingered about him. The ability users, having just traversed the precipice of life and death, now gazed upon him with the reverence of devout supplicants, their faces etched with incredulous awe and gratitude. They had never witnessed such formidable power, a force that transcended their understanding of "Entropy Mark" abilities, seeming to originate from another dimension entirely. Xia Ya darted to Lu Shang's side, embracing him tightly, her small face creased with worry. "Uncle, are you alright? That power just now…" Lu Shang gently stroked her hair, offering a smile that was both weary and reassuring. "I'm fine, Xia Ya. I merely expended some energy. I'll recover soon." He could sense that the brief connection with the Earth's consciousness had granted him immense power but had also drained a significant portion of his mental and physical reserves. Karl and the other resonators also gathered around, their eyes shining with excitement and admiration. "Lu Shang, your power just now… it was like that of a god!" Karl exclaimed with heartfelt awe. Lu Shang shook his head. "We are all the same, Karl. That power just now did not belong to me alone, but rather originated from the very planet beneath our feet. We are all part of this Earth, and as long as we can truly resonate with it, we can tap into unimaginable strength." He turned to the newly liberated ability users, whose eyes still held traces of astonishment. "The same applies to you. Each of you possesses this potential. All we need to do is find the method to resonate with the universe, with the planet that sustains us." In the ensuing time, Lu Shang elucidated to the group his experience of connecting with the Earth. He explained that an intrinsic connection, a harmonious frequency, existed throughout the cosmos, and that "Resonance" was the means of finding and connecting with it. He believed that the true enigma of the "Zero Entropy Mark" lay hidden within this connection to the very source of the universe. The ability users listened with rapt attention, as if a gateway to an entirely new world had been unveiled before them. They began to experiment with meditation and contemplation as Lu Shang had described, yearning to discover their own path to Resonance. While clearing the battlefield, they discovered some equipment left behind by The Annihilator. The devices appeared highly intricate and advanced, covered in complex energy runes. Karl carefully examined the equipment and discovered that one of them seemed to be a communication device. "Lu Shang, this device might still contain some information," Karl said, handing the communication device to Lu Shang. Lu Shang took the device and attempted to infuse it with his Resonance power. A faint light flickered across its surface, and a hazy holographic projection materialized before them. The projection displayed encrypted text and images, seemingly internal communication logs from the Ouroboros organization. After considerable effort, Lu Shang and Xia Ya, utilizing their combined Resonance power, successfully deciphered a portion of the encrypted information. They discovered that the Ouroboros organization was conducting a clandestine project codenamed "Entropy Core." This project appeared to be closely linked to the "Zero Entropy Mark," and their objective was to harness its power to completely control the flow of energy throughout the world, thereby achieving their dominion. "Entropy Core… they actually intend to exploit the power of the 'Zero Entropy Mark' to achieve their aims!" Lu Shang's expression grew grave. He had initially believed that Ouroboros merely sought to control ability users, but now it seemed their ambition was far more expansive than he had imagined. "How do they intend to utilize the 'Zero Entropy Mark'?" Xia Ya asked with concern. Lu Shang shook his head. "The information does not provide specific details, but it is certain that if their plan succeeds, it will bring unimaginable disaster to the entire world." From the liberated ability users, they also gleaned some rumors about the "Entropy Core" project. It was said that the Ouroboros organization was secretly searching for a special device capable of amplifying the power of the "Entropy Marks." Their aim was to use this device to concentrate the power of all ability users, ultimately achieving control over the "Zero Entropy Mark." "We must stop them!" Lu Shang declared with unwavering resolve. "We cannot allow them to succeed!" He looked at the ability users around him, their eyes also filled with anger and apprehension. "Everyone, we now know the true objective of Ouroboros. They not only seek to control us but also intend to use the power of the 'Zero Entropy Mark' to rule the entire world. For our own freedom, for the peace of the world, we must unite and fight against them together!" Lu Shang's words ignited the fighting spirit of everyone present. They all expressed their willingness to follow Lu Shang and Xia Ya and fight Ouroboros to the very end. After some deliberation, they decided to alter their strategy. Instead of continuing to act in a dispersed manner, attacking Ouroboros strongholds one by one, they would concentrate their forces on locating the core of Ouroboros's "Entropy Core" project and completely dismantle their conspiracy. "According to the intelligence we have gathered, Ouroboros's largest secret research facility is likely located in a place called the 'Abyss of Oblivion,'" said an ability user who had previously worked within the Ouroboros organization. "It is heavily guarded, and it is said that only a select few core members are permitted entry." "The Abyss of Oblivion?" Lu Shang frowned. The name itself carried an ominous weight. "Yes, it is located in a death zone perpetually shrouded in dense fog. The environment is extremely harsh, and ordinary people cannot approach it at all," the ability user continued. "However, if the 'Entropy Core' project truly exists, then that is very likely where their central operations are located." Lu Shang and Xia Ya exchanged a glance. They both sensed that this "Abyss of Oblivion" was likely the most crucial battlefield they would face next. "We must go to the Abyss of Oblivion," Lu Shang said with determination. "Only by destroying the 'Entropy Core' can we truly thwart Ouroboros's plan." They decided to set off for the "Abyss of Oblivion" immediately. To avoid detection by Ouroboros, they adopted a more clandestine approach. Lu Shang utilized his Resonance power to sense the surrounding energy fluctuations, providing early warnings of potential dangers. Xia Ya used her telekinetic abilities to manipulate the environment, helping them to conceal their presence and evade Ouroboros's surveillance network. The newly freed ability users also contributed their powers. Those with special sensory abilities were responsible for scouting ahead, while those with invisibility abilities were tasked with infiltrating enemy lines to gather intelligence. They formed a united and efficient team, advancing together towards the "Abyss of Oblivion." On their journey to the "Abyss of Oblivion," Lu Shang and Xia Ya also continuously strived to enhance their own powers and deepen their understanding of Resonance. Lu Shang discovered that his connection with the Earth was growing stronger, and he could even sense the planet's emotions and will. He vaguely felt that the Earth was also responding to his call, granting him even greater power. Xia Ya's telekinetic abilities also improved significantly. She could not only control surrounding matter with greater precision but could even communicate telepathically with places farther away. She frequently engaged in mental communion with ability users imprisoned in other strongholds, soothing their anxieties and conveying messages of hope. As they drew closer to the "Abyss of Oblivion," the surrounding environment became increasingly hostile. A thick fog blanketed the land, drastically reducing visibility. The air was thick with a nauseatingly putrid odor, as if this were a forsaken realm. "This is the outer perimeter of the Abyss of Oblivion," the ability user who had previously worked for Ouroboros said, pointing towards the fog-shrouded area ahead. "It's very dangerous inside. Everyone must be extremely careful." Lu Shang and Xia Ya nodded. They could sense a powerful and malevolent force lurking deep within the fog. They knew they were about to face an unprecedented challenge. "No matter how dangerous it is ahead, we cannot retreat," Lu Shang said, looking at his companions behind him, his eyes filled with unwavering determination. "For everything we cherish, for the future of this world, we must press forward with courage!" They took a deep breath and resolutely stepped into the deathly fog, advancing towards the core region of the "Abyss of Oblivion." The genesis of entropy, perhaps, lay hidden in the depths of this dark and perilous territory, awaiting them to unveil its final secret.
