  Alex   I grabbed my key, and we left my office. The midday air was pleasant, but it did little to relieve the heavy weight in my chest. Julie sat next to me.   The silence between Julie and me felt oppressive. I wasn't sure if it was a relief or a reminder of how far I'd dropped. Camilla did not want to have anything to do with me, aside from the partnership. I was scared to force her, afraid of what she might do if I pushed her further than she wanted. So I had to depend on someone outside of our previous lives to provide the answers that were sliding away from me. It seemed like the only way to get near to the truth.
