CHAPTER TWENTY-FOUR Her sharp words told me that the conversation was finished but I still wasn’t. There was the dinner that night and I would try to keep my promise to the kindly Giles as best I could. We rolled fast through the streets and returned to the shopping district. The driver parked us along the curb that abutted the gravel sidewalks and we stepped out. A large department store of three floors with a wide front loomed up in front of us.
