The July evening was pleasantly warm. A soft breeze stirred, and there was silence apart from the birds. Sebastian closed his eyes and breathed in the scent of summer. The brief exchange inside with Hawkins had been interesting. He was far from certain, but the elegant, schoolmasterish Captain Hawkins might just share something of his nature. He glanced at the man walking by his side. Then again, he might not. He pushed the notion from his head. In his current situation, it would be folly to test it. They walked in silence. Sebastian couldn’t tell the difference between a buttercup and a rose, but the scent from the garden was heady. “What is that divine smell?” He asked as they walked through the gardens, boots crunching rhythmically on gravel. “Night flowering jasmine.” Hawkins nodded
