Sebastian rose early and declined the offer of a valet. He shaved and dressed himself as in the country he could be a much more relaxed about his raiment. He tamed his hair as best he could, arranged a simple knot in his cravat, and stamped his feet into his top boots. By the time he had settled himself into his coat he felt ready to face the day. He made his way to the dining room and found Hawkins there already. He stood by the window, staring out over the garden. Sebastian had the strongest feeling that he saw nothing.
