The Distance Between Us

Chapter Eight

Keiran's Pov

"Mr. Martinez what are you trying to do to me, seduce me?'

I can't get what Ayla said out of my mind, especially with that smile of her that makes her cheekbones and dimples pop out. I lose all my senses when she smiles. She gave me an opportunity to show her that I do have an interest in her and I took it. I just don't want her to think that she is easy or anything but I feel like I kind of took it too far. Where she now thinks that's how I see her. Which I don't at all. Seeing her defend herself against me made me proud of her that I was smiling like an i***t. I keep stealing glances at her and she looks so determined and focused on this meeting. Whereas I can't even comprehend the words others are saying. I am enchanted by Ayla.

"Mr. Martinez? Do you think the proposal is to your standard?" Oh sh*t! I did not hear anything about the proposal. I looked over to my advisor and then to Ayla and they were looking at me too with a confused look. I need to come up with something to say and quickly. Even if it's a lie, I just don't want to come off as incompetent. I sat up straight in my chair and said, "Mr. Shonjin, it sounds like an interesting proposal but before I can make a decision I need to go over the notes and benefits with my assistant and advisor. For now let's continue with this meeting and hear the others and their proposals." Mr. Shonjin, nodded his head in agreement and sat back down. Oh gosh I'm so glad that worked. I really need to pay attention and not get distracted. Man I just hope the next two clients go a bit faster than, Mr. Shonjin, he took longer than expected.

I looked down at my watch and it was 10:37A.M. Almost two hours. As I was looking down I noticed Ayla was squirming in her seat. Does she need to go to the bathroom? As I saw one of the clients preparing to get up to do their presentation, I stood up and addressed everyone, "Before we get started, let's take a quick 10 minute recess. Is that alright with everyone?" Everyone nodded their heads and said yes. I saw some of the assistants that were standing up and walking out of the room. I looked down at Ayla and she was just sitting there. Did she not need to use the restroom? I bent down to her ear and whispered, "This is the time to go to the restroom if you need to go." she turned my way startled, we were face to face. Those beautiful honey hazel eyes that were looking at me with confusion, "Can I go?" Oh gosh this woman, "Yes Ms. Sanchez you can go. You are the reason I asked for the 10 minute recess. I saw you squirming in your seat." She turned red at the cheeks probably from embarrassment that I noticed her squirming. "Oh well thank you Mr. Martinez, I appreciate it. I'm going to go now."

Ayla stands up and she starts heading towards the door when I spotted one of the clients, Aidan McKinley, get up and open the door for Ayla. He smiled at her and said, "Hello beautiful, let me get the door for you. Wow you are gorgeous." It was making me furious the way he was trying to hit on her. I didn't notice that I was balling up my hand in a fist until I felt a stinging pain in my palm from my fingernails digging into it. I quickly released my fist. I can't let my jealousy get to me, I have to remember she is not mine. Aidan continued talking to her, "Are you single? If you are, I would love to take you out for lunch after this meeting." I wanted to rush Aidan against the wall and start beating that smirk off his face. I saw Ayla step back a few steps because he was getting close to her. I was about to stand up but I saw her flash her engagement ring in his face and say, "No, I'm engaged and I am happy." Once she tells Aidan that she steps forward and heads out the door.

Aidan's smirk fell into a straight line which I wanted to laugh at but I didn't miss that he was checking her out as she walked away. Aidan closed the door and went back to his seat. He turned to face me with a smirk, "Hey Keiran, when did you get that sexy little assistant?" I really hate this guy he always just sees women as trophies. "Mr. McKinley, I'd appreciate it, if you do not harass my employees. I wouldn't want to press charges on you if you go too far." I wanted to do more than just press charges, I wanted to beat him for trying to flirt with Ayla. He looked at me with an astonished face, "Oh ya can't forget the big bad Mr. Keiran Martinez treats his employees the same as him. I'll leave her alone.. for now." I really hate this guy.

Ayla's Pov

"That Mr. Martinez is so sexy. I wonder if he is married." "Well I didn't see a ring on his finger so I'm assuming he's probably not." "Well I want to find out so I can shoot my shot or at least get in bed with him haha either way even if he's married I would still do it. Aidan is kind of getting boring. I think he reconciled with his wife that's why he's not showing much affection towards me anymore." "Wow Lisa haha you're horrible. You're just jumping from CEO to CEO." Mr. Martinez is very attractive. No Ayla! You can't think your boss is good looking! You have Seth! Snap out of it.

I was there in the bathroom stall listening to the other assistants talking about Mr. Martinez and Mr. McKinley. I'm debating on walking out of the stall or just waiting in here till they leave. I don't want them thinking that I'm eavesdropping. I can't wait forever though. Why are all the clients and their assistants so scandalous and just throw themselves at anyone. Like Mr. McKinley earlier tried to hit on me and take me out for lunch, and just now I found out he's married and having an affair with his assistant. I just had an idea come to my head. I will put in my ear pods and walk out because they can think I didn't hear anything they said. I put them in and flushed the toilet. I walked out towards the sink to wash my hands when I approached the sink I saw the 2 women in the corner of my eye staring at me.

"Hey aren't you Mr. Martinez's assistant?" The one named Lisa came up to me and tapped my shoulder. I looked up at her pretending I still didn't hear her, I smiled and pointed to my ear pods. I walked over to the paper towel dispenser and grabbed one to dry my hands, I then took the ear pod out. "Sorry about that I was listening to something. What were you saying?" She looked at me with this disgusted look which I don't understand why. I should be looking at her like that for sleeping with a married man. "You are Mr. Martinez's assistant right?" Oh my gosh. I hope she's not going to ask me if I could hook her up with my boss. "Yes I'm his assistant. Today is my first day on the job." She folded her arms across her chest and let out a sigh. "Oh then you won't be of any help or maybe you can help. Do you know if he's married?" Of course the audacity of this girl. "I wouldn't have any clue yet. Like I said it's my first day on the job today. Sorry I should start heading back." I say this as I'm walking past them towards the door. What is wrong with some people.

Like I get why they are attracted to Mr. Martinez, he is very good looking, with those piercing green eyes and those pink full lips... wait! why am I daydreaming of him again. I seriously need some help. I have someone already, I shouldn't be fantasizing over another man. I walked into the conference room and took my seat next to Mr. Martinez, which he was on his phone. I took my phone out real quick to see if Seth had messaged me. I saw his name in the notification bar and opened it.

Seth: Hey baby just wanted to say I hope everything is going well. Call me when you go on lunch. I'm off work early today. Love you.

I was about to reply when I heard Mr. Martinez right in my ear with his low seductive voice, "Ms. Sanchez, we need to exchange phone numbers."
