EIGHTEEN 1984The couple stayed in Joe’s apartment for three years before moving to a house on the mainland. The reason for that decision being, Rachel was pregnant. They had thought raising a child in a house was more practical than an apartment. Besides, they had been saving for this occasion ever since their marriage. Now was the time to move on with their lives, to graduate into homeownership. Their first home was a one floor, three-bedroom, two bath ranch, built around 1965. The backyard was fenced, so they were considering adopting a puppy. But that would have to wait until well after the baby arrived. One baby at a time was enough chaos. Being first time parents, Rachel and Joe were nervous about the upcoming arrival, and neither had a parent who would be assisting or guiding them.
