Rehan Malhotra
'I can't wait to tell Aadhya, all your embarassing childhood events' Reshma Aunty giggled as mom second her opinion. It was my haldi tomorrow and everyone was in my house as we eat the dinner from outside of the house.
'Definitely and I've already collected all his naked photos from the album's in case he tore them' Liya commented. Oh my god. Why the hell is everyone behind me.
'Girls, where have your dance practices reached' Rekha Chachi, Prashant Chachu's wife asked the girls.
'We are so ready. We are waiting for Sangeet and reception. And isn't the boys not doing anything' Tara looked at us and I raised my hand nodding no.
'Before the question arise, everyone can dance but the groom is not dancing, it's final' I'm terrible in dancing and I really have this dance fear. If you tell me, I can present a speech but not a dance.
'Oh please, we were so good during our 12th annual days' Sanjay laughed as I reminisced the school days.
'I was between everybody and no one noticed me' I said as a matter of fact.
'No, you were good'
I looked to see Kavya, she was looking at me and then suddenly looked down. Ofcourse, she knows. Stalking me for 8-9 years in school gives lots of info about me.
'And before mom starts my leg is perfectly fine now and I'm there for dancing.' Ved looked at mom and she shook her head.
'Okay but break your leg only after the marriage. I can't manage my son's wedding and another's leg' She replied as we laughed at him. This guy has more broken bones than the good ones.
It was after midnight and everyone was still in the hall and I came to my room to change my dress. Marriage means no sleep but it's so fun to have all of your family around. I've been running from morning to evening with Sanjay and Mom and I really need a shower. Even though Sanjay was the wedding planner, he never forgets to give me work.
I threw my shirt into the corner and took my towel. That's when I remembered Aadhya. She would really hate such things and it'll be fun to make her mad.
I shook my head smiling and went to the bathroom. I came out wearing my fresh sweatpants and started searching for my t-shirt in the cupboard. That's when I noticed the cover in my cupboard.
It was the mangalsutra. I knew this was something she had to be with for her whole life, so I specially designed it. From her I got to know that she loves simple things.
She only wears simple earings, simple necklaces and has huge craziness over watch. So I made the mangalsutra a simple one with diamond and I really hope she likes it. All the girls here commented it's very pretty and I really can't wait to put it around her.
I took the bag and take out the box. I smiled, as I imagined her wearing that, opening the box. But to find nothing! It's empty.
The mangalsutra is Missing!
~
Rehan checked the the whole room before rushing out wearing his shirt. He reached the hall and spotted his mom.
'Mom, the mangalsutra is missing' Rehan's words made everyone to gasp and Sunitha kept her hand on her chest.
'Where did you keep it' Gayatri asked.
'My cupboard. It was inside a box which was in a cover. And the cupboard was closed too' He replied as everyone looked at each other in shock.
'Its not a good sign. Maybe the god is indicatin--'
'Come, let's search his room' Rekha didn't let Kanika's words to complete as the ladies rushed to his room except for Kanika.
Tara was having this bad feeling and looking at Kavya, she didn't felt anything better. Tara was sure to herself that she saw Kavya coming out of Rehan's room. Kavya was looking out of the window staring into space. She was not aware of what everything was happening there.
Tara looked over to see her most cousins and uncles sitting on the couch in the living room. So she took hold of Kavya's hand and sneaked out.
'Where are you taking me' Kavya asked rubbing her hands as they reached outside. Tara scanned Kavya and could definitely spot her dark circles and see her running nose because of the fever, Kavya says.
'Wasn't that you? And don't dare to lie because I saw you coming from Rehan Bhai's room' Tara kept her voice low but firm.
'I didn't do anything wrong' Kavya said in a low voice enough for Tara to hear. Tara groaned running her hands through hairs.
'Okay listen. Our cousin Rehan is getting married day after tomorrow and stealing his mangalsutra is not wrong! Do you know what you're doing?' Tara shook Kavya who giving her a smile sat on one of the chairs, where they had dinner.
'He's not my cousin. He's my love. My life' Unknown to her, Kavya's eyes skipped a tear. Tara loved Kavya as much as she loved her other cousins and she knew Kavya had something towards Rehan but had always thought it was a teenage crush. Tara gasped sitting next to Kavya and held her hands.
She couldn't believe what she was hearing. Rehan was getting married and this girl being blinded by love has stolen his wedding's most precious source.
'You have to let that go Kavya. He can't-- You can't' Tara looked at their hands not knowing what to say as the fear shook her.
'I love him more than myself and all these time he was mine until she came. My love is not a joke. He should be mine. He's mine and this is mine' Kavya take the mangalsutra out of her pocket and looking at it for a moment she wore it around her neck.
Tara shook her head and touched the mangalsutra. 'Its wrong. No please. Kavya please, it's wrong. It's--'
'It is right Tara. From the moment I was born I imagined a future with him and don't I get anything in return. If not his love then atleast his name's mangalsutra'
'You can't be struck in the love for him. You've got things to do in your life and you will be wearing a mangalsutra of that guy who'll love you more than himself' Tara hugged Kavya rubbing her back and slowly untied the mangalsutra.
'No one can love me like I do Tara. You ask me for my heart I'll give but not him. Not him' Kavya stood shaking her head she wiped the tears and started to walk back.
'And I really wish she, who's going to wear this, face everything the worst this world can give and let her have the worst death'
Tara shivered hearing Kavya's words and looked at the now cursed mangalsutra.
She noticed how Kavya never uttered Aadhya's name, that did show how much she hates her. Tara really loved Aadhya and that innocent soul is not going to wear this and I won't let her to make Aadhya's life hell. Tara thought taking a deep breath.
~
'Hey Liya, can you please please make me the your special lime juice' Tara made a puppy face and Liya eagerly nodded. Liya loves cooking more than everything and every now and then she tries something special.
They reached over the kitchen and Liya took the lemons and started to extract the juice from it.
'I'll take the waste' Tara took the lemons and seeds and opened the dustbin. 'Oh my god, the mangalsutra! Liya the mangalsutra is here!'
Tara tried to act normally as she can and covered her mouth in order to not mess her acting. Liya stopped making her juice and looked over to the dustbin. Indeed there was the wedding chain.
'Ill call mom' Liya ran to call everyone and Tara slowly took the mangalsutra out by a tissue.
'Oh the furious furious falooda' Rehan muttered looking at the mangalsutra. He really was not in a mood to get beaten by his mother for his language so he controlled it but he couldn't control his anger seeing the mangalsutra in the dustbin. It was so precious and he specially designed it for his special one.
Sunita washed the mangalsutra as Rehan was still in the shock.
'I'm not giving that to Aadhya' Rehan sighed looking at the chain and at his mother. They both share a look and nodded at eachother.
Hell he was not going to let that mangalsutra which lied between the waste to be around his lady's neck.
Tara took a deep breath as she thanked the God.
So how do you guys like it?
Thoughts on Kavya and do you support what Tara did?
In my defense I do, no newly bride would want to wear a cursed mangalsutra for her whole life.
Also I don't know if the groom can keep mangalsutra befre marriage things and all, I don't know anything about it. It was purely my thoughts. So if there's a mistake, please forgive.
