Chapter 5

1060 Words
Camila's POV Was it karma? Was it fate? Was it all meant to be this way? I had no idea. All I knew was that the moon goddess was punishing me. As if being hated by my mother and sister wasn't enough, my mate rejected me and my sister betrayed me. I was left to continue this miserable life of mine in the Shadow Moon pack. I heaved as I finished doing the dishes. I was eighteen already and free to leave the pack house, but I knew they would not let me. I was their slave. Who would do all of their hard work if not me? I had only one thing in mind since I woke up this morning. Revenge. And the only way to get it was to go rogue. I had no choice. I needed to leave the Shadow Moon territory for my own sanity. I planned to abscond tonight. The gammas on watch were usually few then. I leaned on the kitchen sink. I could not wait for the moon to rise. Asher's POV I tried to concentrate on the affairs of the pack that Irwin had submitted before me, but I couldn't. I was tormented by a pair of silvery-rain colored eyes. I rejected her, there was no way she was supposed to still be in my memory, but she was. I had no idea what I was feeling, but I hated it. I leaned into the seat and closed my eyes. Would you stop haunting me? I asked no one in particular. I hope she doesn't. You just rejected her without seeking for my opinion, Arcane growled at me and I ignored him. Just then, a knock came on the door and I was forced to open my eyes. Almost immediately, the raven dark haired lady that followed me home last night walked in. "Did I permit you to come in?" I inquired, annoyed by her presence. "No, but I.. " she began to speak, but I cut her short. "What do you want?" I asked her with a stoic expression. "When should we fix the engagement, alpha? Should it not be in grand style?" She said with a smile. "What's your name again?" I asked the raven head chatterbox that just walked into my study room, disrupting my thoughts as I placed my index finger on the side of my nose and my thumb resting underneath my chin. "Samantha Ronson," she replied with a smile. I so wanted to chase her out, but the pack needed a Luna. "In a few days," I responded. Her eyes brightened. "And the wedding?" She asked in pure joy. I closed my eyes briefly and opened them. "Get engaged first," I responded. She beamed with smiles. "After the engagement, am I free to call you endearing names?" She asked blinking seductively. I stared at her, narrowing down my eyes. "I do not have time for such sentiments," I replied coldly and she seemed hurt. I inhaled. "Do whatever pleases you, I care less," I added. She nodded and walked away. I returned back to the thick papers in front of me and all I could see were those tormenting silvery-rain colored eyes. ~~~~~~~` Camila's POV Dusk finally came and the moon rose high into the sky. I inhaled deeply and exhaled. I looked out the window and just like I had predicted, only a few gammas were patrolling the pack house. The omegas we're still working around the house, getting one thing or the other tidied. The only way I could get out of the house without being questioned was to pretend I was doing a chore too. I decided to take out the waste basket. Walking through the hallway, I met my mother. "Where are you going?" She asked, stopping me in my tracks. I swallowed nervously. "Taking out the trash," I responded. "Why don't you take yourself out then? For you are the trash," she said venomously and it broke my heart. Not tonight, Camila. I calmed myself from breaking down. "Let Mona do it. I have a task for you," she continued. No! My head screamed. Not tonight of all nights! "No, no," I panicked. "What do you mean by no?" She demanded as she walked closer to me. "I'll do it myself and then come to you," I responded, trying to steady the rapid beating of my heart. She didn't sound convinced as she looked at me with narrowed eyes. "Fine," she said, finally giving in. "I want you in my room in five minutes," she ordered. "Yes, I'll be there," I responded and she walked past me. I let go of the breath I had no idea I was holding. That was close. I heaved deeply as I walked out of the pack house. As soon as I dropped the waste, I turned to my heels and ran as fast as my legs could carry me. My heart was beating fast and my knees almost give up on me, but I did not relent. I could not stop running until I was sure I was out of the Shadow Moon's territory. I kept running and all that flashed through my mind was all the hurtful words my mother and sister had told me all my life. I was a good for nothing who was going to die living in the Shadow Moon pack. Fresh tears clouded my eyes as I remembered those words. It gave me the energy to keep running. I ran for my dear life. I had no idea for how long I had been running, but I had to stop as my legs could no longer continue. My breath was unstable as it deepened due to the running. I was ready to rest when I was sure the Shadow Moon was way behind me, until I heard footsteps. I panicked. I was finally caught. This was the end for me. One of the gammas must have noticed me in the woods and came after me. I thought. Or was it some wild animals? Or some hounds of barbarians? My thoughts spread wild like a fire on a harmattan morning. I did not want to wait to discover what it was. I turned on my heels immediately. "Wait!" I halted immediately. Was that a girl's voice I just heard?
