Isabella's pov
I was still in a daze when Joseph walked me out of the Sky Hotel and got me seated in the back seat of the limited edition black Maybach.
It wasn't until the car started that I regained my senses.
In the car, I somehow felt relieved and a bit hot while smelling the pleasant strong cedar scent from Joseph.
"Am I dreaming?!”
“Joseph Parker, future Alpha of the Parker Pack, the strongest pack in New York, saved me?!”
“Oh, my Moon Goddess!"
"Cannot get enough of what you’re looking at, huh?" As I pondered, Joseph's deep magnetic voice rang out.
Startled by the sudden question, my cheeks were burning. I quickly averted my gaze from his face.
As his light laughter rang in my ear, I lowered my head, too embarrassed to look at him.
Taking a deep breath, I turned my head to ask, "Thank you for helping me out, Mr. Parker. But where are we going now?"
"To Green Bay."
Green Bay? I had heard of this place before. It was the most upscale villa area in New York, more like a manor.
As the car slowed down, I saw a high-ceilinged entrance hall, round-arched windows, gorgeous crystal chandeliers as well as exquisite finely carved fireplace, all demonstrating romantic and solemn temperament.
Green Bay's just a villa area of Parker Pack's field, already so luxurious. It's hard to imagine how magnificent Parker Pack's Mansion should be.
Although the Watson Pack, where I’m from, is rich, it's nothing compared to the Parker Pack.
After getting off the car, I saw a man and a woman standing at the grand gate.
"Welcome back, Mr. Parker."
"This is Eason Abbott, the butler, and Jenna Hudson, the maid," Joseph introduced, and then pointed at me, saying, "This is Isabella Watson."
"Good day, Ms. Watson!"
Jenna was a woman in her early forties, with a kind smile on her face, looking easy to get along with.
The tall and thin person next to Jenna was Eason, who looked serious.
I smiled and greeted them.
Then under Joseph's instruction, they went off to busy themselves.
"You can live here tonight."
"Thank you, Mr. Parker." I pursed my lips and said.
Indeed, Joseph's appearance today had crushed Amanda's plan.
If I went back to the Watson Pack today, Amanda and the elders of the Watson Pack would definitely give me a hard time and continue to question me.
Therefore, staying here tonight was a better choice.
"Mr. Parker, thank you for helping me out today. But may I know wh-why you…gave me the hotel room card at the bar last night?" I mustered the courage and asked.
“It was not me. You went to the wrong hotel last night.” He said coldly, the veins on his forehead bulged.
“So you’re not the call boy?!” I blurted out, but covered my mouth with both hands immediately. “But how do you know I was at the Sky Hotel earlier today?”
“My wolf led me there.”
“You mean…?” I couldn’t believe I was really his fated mate. “But I’m wolfless, Mr. Parker.”
With that, I lowered my head and wait to be judged.
"I found out about that last night." He said in a flat tone, as if the fact that I couldn't shift into a wolf couldn’t be more ordinary.
I just couldn't believe my ears.
"You found out about that last night? Then why did you make it sound like we’re together as mates earlier at the Sky Hotel? I'm wolfless! This isn’t a small matter!”
The Parker Pack was the most powerful in New York. If Joseph made me his future Luna, his pack would be weakened. His pack members wouldn’t be okay with that.
I was looked down upon in Watson Pack because I couldn't shift into a wolf.
When I was with Bruno before, some members of the Sandall Pack used to mock me, claiming that I didn’t deserve Bruno.
"I know what I'm doing!" He frowned and looked into my eyes, “Listen. I don't care if you could shift into a wolf or not. All you need to know is that you're my fated mate and Parker Pack's future Luna."
Looking into his eyes, I couldn't help but believe that the man in front of me was completely different from Bruno.
From his serious looks, I could tell that he was someone I could trust.
Then a ringing phone interrupted our conversation.
Joseph answered the call before turning to me. "Sorry, I gotta go. There’s an urgent matter to attend to. Just spend the night here today."
I nodded and watched him leave...
Joseph didn't return all night. I didn't sleep well either because my mind was preoccupied with Ruth's safety.
At 8:30 in the morning, after finishing breakfast, I went to Jenna. "Thank you for taking care of me, Jenna. I’m leaving now. Please tell Mr. Parker that I really appreciate his help."
"Why not tell Mr. Parker after he comes back, Ms. Watson?" Jenna looked uneasy.
"I’d love to, but I’m kinda running out of time. I have to go."
I was so worried about Ruth that I couldn't wait for one more minute.
"It's raining heavily now. Would you like Eason to give you a ride then?" she suggested.
"That's really nice but I'll be just fine."
After declining Jenna’s kind offer, I took a taxi and headed straight to Watson's Mansion.
Green Bay was a bit far from Watson's Mansion. Coupled with the heavy rain, the trip took me a full 2 hours.
When I finally went into Watson's Mansion's living room, I saw Amanda and Jasmine sitting on the sofa.
Jasmine mocked me with a sneer at the sight of me.
"Tut-tut! Didn’t you leave with Joseph Parker? Why are you back now? b***h! When do you hook up with Joseph Parker? You announced cancelling your mating ceremony with Bruno because of him, right? You shameless b***h!"
I ignored her and turned to Amanda.
"Where is Ruth?"
"How dare you ignore me! b***h! You..."
"Calm down, Jasmine!" Amanda stopped Jasmine before speaking, "Isabella, do you know how much trouble you caused to the Sandall Pack and the Watson Pack yesterday? Your father and the pack elders are really pissed off. They’re all asking for an explanation!"
I didn't want to hear her nonsense and repeated my question, "Where is Ruth?"
“Where is Ruth? Of course, she's somewhere you can't find! Let me tell you! Although I can't do anything to you now, I can torture her instead!"
Amanda stood up and walked towards me with a cold face, whispering into my ears between gritted teeth.
