DAKARAI’s POV.
It was a mistake, I wanted to dial Caspian to come take his woman from my house but I mistakenly dialed Rhys’ number. I still couldn’t believe that I was married and that was why my eyes opened wide the moment I dialed his number.
I didn’t allow it to ring for the third time, I quickly clicked on the receive button and flung the phone on the couch.
Zena was still on about what she was talking about and I was genuinely tired of listening to her speak. For a few seconds, I thought about calling the security guards outside to throw her out.
“Can you even hear me?” Her voice pulled me out of my train of thoughts, “I am talking to you, D” she hissed, frustration lingering in her voice, “why are you acting like I did something wrong when it was your fault for not giving your man enough attention? Caspian is like a baby and he needs constant attention”
I scoffed, was she being serious right now? How was I friends with her for years but I didn’t see past her façade? She was the fakest person out there but I chose to see the good in her.
Fuck!! I should have known and seen better.
“And that’s why you decided to seduce him?” I asked her, anger brimming at the edge of my voice, “you were my best friend, Zena!” I yelled as tears welled up in my eyes. The fact that I have been a fool all these years would forever haunt me till the day I die.
“I didn’t seduce him” Zena cried, her voice laced with a bit of sarcasm that my ear didn’t miss, “he was the one who came at me”
She was still talking when my phone screen lit up and a familiar name popped up. My heart skipped. Maybe he would be worried that something had happened. I wanted to ignore it but then again, from my encounter with him, I knew he wouldn’t stop calling.
Leaning towards the sofa, I picked up the phone and clicked on the receive button.
“Hello”
“Are you okay?” His deep baritone filtered through, “you called”
“It was a mistake” I said sincerely, “I was meaning to call someone else”
“Who is that?” Zena asked from where she was standing.
“You have company?” I could hear the interest from his voice.
“It’s not important,” I told him, “and you should go about your day. Don’t worry about me”
Rhys was silent for a few seconds, I could swear he was calculating something. That man hardly talked but he always looked like he had a lot going on in his head.
“I will talk to you later” I announced and before he could say anything else, I clicked on the end button.
Zena was looking at me funny, like she had just heard something atrocious.
“That was a man, Dakarai,” she said, her tone filled with mockery, “were you cheating on Caspian all these years?”
“I think you should leave,” I suggested, rolling my eyes to the back of my head.
Not waiting for her response, I turned and made my way towards the kitchen but she followed, her accusatory gaze accompanying me.
“Say something, Dakarai” she cajoled, “were you cheating on him?”
“Rich of you to ask me that question”
She scoffed, folding her hands across her chest, “you were cheating and you acted like you haven’t even heard the word before?”
I wasn’t even surprised, cheaters would always do anything and everything to make themselves feel good about what they did.
“You created a whole drama yesterday but then you were also cheating on him? How pathetic can you be, D?” I could see the smirk lingering on her lips. The Zena who looked like the most apologetic person a while back now had an accusatory attitude. I should have known that she only came to make herself feel better and nothing more.
“You are just a fraud”
“Whatever rolls your boat”
I had no energy in me to argue with her. I had a whole lot to take care of. My heart, my marriage, my job and even the company I have with Caspian. I was better off thinking about how to solve everything than let myself listen to her.
“When you are done, you can use the door”
Rolling my eyes to the back of my head, I shoved her off and walked away.
Zena was still talking, accusing me of being a p***y and all that but I paid no attention to her. To me, she was nothing more than a stubborn fly.
At that moment, a knock came on the door and my heart skipped. I offered a silent prayer, wishing for the person at the door not to be Rhys. I wouldn’t be surprised if he actually shows up but then again, we were not supposed to reveal our relationship to anyone yet.
The knock came again and Zana scoffed.
“I am sure that’s your lover” she said, “are you scared of becoming a bad person?”
I didn’t say a word to her, I only made my way towards the door and pulled it open. The face of one of the security guards came into view.
“Madam” he bowed lightly and a feeling of uneasiness crept up inside of me. I was not used to this kind of a situation—never.
“The boss called” he continued, “apparently it seems your guest is disturbing” he looked over at my shoulder, his eyes resting on Zena for a few seconds, “we can take her out of you need us too”
“Who exactly are you sleeping with, D?” Zena’s accusatory tone hit me again, “you really are something, aren’t you?”
If she was smart enough, she would have remembered what happened last night but then it was Zena, she never really paid attention to detail.
“Yes, please” i answered, “take her out”
“What?” Zena’s voice hit the roof. I didn’t bother about her, she was already draining the last Ene guy I had. I didn’t want to cry anymore and she would surely make me if I stayed with her—that was how fragile I actually was.
The man gestured to his men and in no time, she was dragged out of the house amidst her yells and tantrums. Now, I couldn’t recognize myself anymore but I didn’t stop them—it was better that way.
As soon as I closed the door behind her, tears welled up in my eyes but I sniffed it back—none of them was worth it, I wished my heart would understand that.
My phone buzzed in my pocket again and when I pulled it out—Rhys’s name was flashing across the screen.
I sniffed again and clicked on the receive button but I didn’t say a word. My throat was clogged—I hated it with every fiber of my being.
“I will come over to pick you up later” he announced, “I am annulling the clause that allows you to stay away from me”
“What?”
“Hmmm” he hummed, “be ready by seven”
“That’s not what we discussed”
“You can annul one of my clause too” his voice was bland and without any form of emotion, “be ready”
I had no energy left to argue so I just nodded and ended the call, reality dawning on me. I was married to the most private and grumpy man ever—everyone knew that.
Now I was left wondering if I made the right decision.
“You really shot yourself this time, D” I mumbled to myself as I crashed to the ground, hissing in pain. The pain made me remember how I lost everything years ago all because of Caspian.
Anger welled up inside of me as I clenched my jaw—I prayed he burned in the deepest part of hell.
I pulled my head up and my gaze rested on the wall clock. With each click of the clock, I was reminded that I was married and that was the biggest truth of my life.
Rhys may become another Caspian in my life, the thought of it made my heart hurt to hell—I hated my life.
