DAKARAI’s POV.
I groaned lightly as I opened my eyes, my head was pounding so much and it felt like someone was beating drums in my head.
I pulled my body to a sitting position, burying my head in between my palms as another groan left my mouth.
“There are some drugs for you on the bedside table” a deep baritone voice filtered through my ear and i immediately jolted, my eyes catching the figure that was seated on the couch.
I couldn’t help but ogle him for a moment, he was dressed in a blue retro suit which complimented his huge body relaxed into the couch,he looked so tall and well built and his hair was pulled back in neat cornrows. He had this strong presence, very strong presence and I found myself gulping. He looked too good to be true, someone like him existed in only fantasy books right?
He closed the paper he was reading and leaned forward, giving me a full view of his entire body and his face. From where I was seated, I could see the color of his eyes. His fog eyes made him look so ethereal like an angel. His perfectly sculpted face and his sexy lips was one to die for. It felt like he was God’s favorite because man, he was fine.
“Are you going to keep looking or take your medicine, wife?” His baritone voice jolted me out of my thoughts again and my brows furrowed together. What does he mean by wife?
The incident of the night before became fresh in my head and my jaw dropped. He was the same man I slipped the ring onto his finger and he clearly accepted it.
“About last night…” he pulled his body from the couch and I was right, he was tall, taller than Caspian and he looked intimidating. One would have to take a step back in his presence.
“There are changes of clothes for you in the closet, when you are done my assistant will be waiting at the door. Let’s have breakfast together”
With that, he turned around and walked out of the room much to my amusement.
His strides were neither fast nor slow, he walked like he owned the f*****g world.
I was jolted out of my reverie when my phone began to buzz and as soon as I saw the caller ID, my anger skyrocketed.
The nerve of him to call me after I caught him cheating on me.
I ignored the phone before picking up my drugs and taking them. I had to talk to the stranger, it was a little misunderstanding last night and I didn’t mean to give him the ring.
Nodding at myself, I pulled my body off the bed before going into the washroom.
There were a variety of female washings in the bathroom, I wasn't sure if he got them for me or the other way round.
“You do not have time to think about this, Dakarai” I told myself, “you need to get out of here and put all these incidents behind you.
After taking a shower, I grabbed the first pair of clothes I saw in the closet and put it on. It was a low neckline dress that stopped below my knees clinging to my body accentuating my thin waist and long legs. I couldn’t help but wonder how he got to know my size. As I looked at myself in the mirror, I wasn’t such a big lady, it would be easy for someone to get my size. I had my Moroccan mother to thank for that.
The beeping of my phone cut into my thoughts again and seeing it was Caspian again, I rolled my eyes before picking it up. I wanted to hear the lies he was about to tell. Funny how I wasn’t even feeling sad like I should, I felt more disgusted at myself for not seeing their true faces all this time.
“What do you want?” I asked immediately I pressed the phone against my ear, “the nerve of you to keep calling me”
“Where are you, Dakarai?” He asked me, he sounded rather desperate, “and who are you with? Tell me, I will come to pick you up now. Last night you acted so rashly and ended up giving my boss your ring. Look, tell me where you are and I come get you, we can sort this out”
His boss? That man was his boss?
“What do you mean your boss?”
“He owns the hockey club I play for,” Caspian said, “and he has the entire industry in his hands. The entire entertainment industry, you went too far Dakarai and I will need you to fix this. I have been meaning for him to sign a deal with our company, you need to fix this”
“Wow” I scoffed, “you are more concerned about me fixing this than actually apologizing for being an asshole all these years?”
“Tell me where you are and I will come get you, I have already thought about what you would tell Mr Rhys and he won’t take offense to your impulsive behavior last night. Text me your address”
He immediately ended the call and I stood there looking at my phone, disbelief written all over my face. The actual nerve of this man.
My thoughts were interrupted when a knock came on the door.
“Miss Jones, the boss is waiting for you”
With one last look at the mirror, I grabbed my bag and walked out of the room.
“Sorry for keeping you waiting” I said to the man and he nodded before leading me towards the rear of the building.
After a while, we walked into a secluded area and I saw him, lazily seated on a chair with his attention on his phone.
As soon as we walked in, he looked up from his phone and his stoic gaze softened a little.
“She is here, sir” the man announced and he nodded.
“Leave us for now”
After he left, Mr Rhys gestured me to a chair and I gently lowered myself on it, my attention still on him.
He kept looking at me without saying a word and guessing it was my cue to speak, I straightened up but he first me to it.
“Did you take the medicine?”
“Yes, I did”
“Here” he shifted a glass of water towards me, “breakfast will be served any minute now, it should help more with your headache”
I was mum, he was acting so chill right now while the hair at the back of my head was standing on edge, he looked rather scary.
“Mr Rhys” I began nervously and his brows furrowed together,“Can I say something?”
“Hmm” he leaned back, his leg crossing over the other
while he rested his jaw on his hand.
“About last night, I am sorry..I was drunk and I was in a
bad place then, I didn’t mean to impose anything on you and I……
“So you don’t wanna get married?” He asked me, his tone still the same, “I already prepared the Marriage certificates though. You gave me the ring and I said I do, doesn’t that count?”
My jaw dropped slightly, was he being serious right now?
“I…you…” I laughed awkwardly trying to hide the nervousness emanating from me, “I don’t think you want someone like me, you….
“Someone like you, what exactly do you mean by that statement Miss jones. You were pretty determined last night, what happened now?”
“I was drunk and I….
“Marry me, Miss jones” he cut me off, “you will prefer to be with a man like me than your ex I guess”
His words struck a chord, he was right. I would rather be with a total stranger than a cheating bastard like Caspian. Speaking of Caspian, I wanted to ask Mr Rhys if he knew who Caspian was but I decided against it, it didn’t matter.
“So what do you say, Miss jones?” He leaned forward, “should I return your ring or keep it?”
I was feeling skeptical about this, was marriage actually what I wanted now? But he was a powerful man, someone who Caspian couldn’t dare to stand in front. Was the universe trying to give all these on a platter of gold?
“Feeling skeptical?”
“Of course not,” I answered immediately, “like you said, I would rather be with a man like you than a cheating bastard. Tell me, you already know why I gave you the ring, so what’s your story? Why do you want to marry me?”
“Let’s say my family is involved” he said, “so are you in or out?”
My phone began to ring again and when Caspian’s name popped up, I made up my mind.
“Fine, Mr Rhys, why don’t we sign the papers then?”
“Hmmm”
He beckoned towards the door and his assistant sauntered into the room with an envelope and he handed it to me.
“You can sign when you are ready” Mr Rhys said”
I tore open the envelope and brought out the certificate, our names were boldly scribbled in gold.
Rhys Rockwell and Dakarai jones. All my life, I thought I would get married to Caspian and the certificate would hold our names.
I scoffed at the thought of that, I was really silly not to see beyond what I knew.
I finally made up my mind, I was going to make them regret what they did to me.
Picking up my bag, I checked for a pen before holding it over the certificate.
“Are you sure about this?” He asked me almost immediately.
“Never been more sure, Mr Rhys. You are a powerful man and I I see no reason to decline your offer but two things. Let’s not reveal our marriage yet and I won’t cross my boundaries with you as long as you don’t cross mine. I am ready to be a wife to you if you wish”
“I guess” he shrugged, “this is a marriage of convenience, your conditions are fine by me but after a year and this works out, I will introduce you to my family and announce our relationship”
That sat well with me, not like I expected the relationship to last a year. This man didn’t look like he would want to spend his entire life with me. I didn’t know why he wanted to get married but I guess it is for the best.
With that being said, I hastily scribbled my signature on the paper and handed it back to him. I watched him do the same and just like that, I was married. It was only yesterday when I was excited to give Caspian my ring. How the universe works.
“Since we are married” he began, “it is only natural that we live together, don’t you think?”
“As long as I am your wife, I will do what you want Mr Rhys”
“Hmm, very well then”
I watched him remove a small velvet box from his pocket and he slowly opened it. It was a ring and a very beautiful one at that.
“You gave me a ring, it’s only natural that I give you one” he gently held onto my hand and slipped the ring onto my finger, it fit perfectly.
“You know my size?”
“Your size is not hard to find, Miss jones”
After that he gently pulled his graceful body from the chair.
“I have a meeting and I have got to run, my assistant will drive you back home when you are ready and you can get some stuff. You do not need to pack all of your stuff anyways, I will buy you whatever you want”
“I am more than capable of getting my own stuff, Mr Rhys”
“I very well know that” he told me, “you were once the country’s biggest ballet dancer but I am your husband now, let me handle it”
His words suddenly dawned on me, I was married now and I was married to my ex boyfriend’s boss.
“Make sure to eat your breakfast, I will give you a call later”
With that, he turned around and walked away while I continued to stare back at his retreating figure, he had a very intimidating presence, I couldn’t lie.
My phone began to buzz again and I wanted to smash it on the ground.
“What do you want, Caspian?” I asked as soon as I pressed it against my ear, “why the hell do you keep calling me? We are done, don’t you understand that”
“I asked you to send me your location, Dakarai” he retorted, “I just saw Mr Rhys leaving, Weren’t you supposed to explain things to him? He took you in his arms last night and left, you should tell him it was a misunderstanding. This is our company I am talking about baby, you don’t want to jeopardize what we have built after all these years now, do you?”
“Then you should go talk to him” I snorted, “he is your boss, i shouldn’t be the one doing your job for you and please stop calling me. Hearing your voice disgusts me”
I didn’t bother to wait for his response before ending my call, Caspian had always been an asshole, I just didn’t realise it.
My mind drifted off to my best friend and I clenched my jaw together. She hasn’t even gathered the courage to call me and explain anything to me. Not like I was going to accept any of her silly excuses anyways but…
Zena and I went way back for her to hurt me in this way, we went to college together and even ventured into ballet together. How did she even get the courage to do this to me?
“Ma’am” my musing was cut short, “should we serve breakfast now?”
“Have it parked please” I told her.
“Okay, Mrs Rockwell”
Oh, that was fast.
“Thank you”
As I watched her leave, it dawned on me that I was married now, married to Rhys Rockwell, the most important man in America’s entertainment industry.
