Sarah appeared appalled, " I'm not crushing on him__
" Liar liar, pants on fire. "
" Whatever... "
" So you're telling him? "
" I promised but... "
" But? " Derrick pushed.
" I have to find out what Stephanie knows, I can't have Tyler's emotions ruining it. "
Derrick cleared his throat, " You mean you don't want to hurt his emotions, you like him? "
Sarah took to her feet, " Tomorrow, we go to Stephanie's house. She's gonna tell me what she knows. "
" So, back to the usual Sarah. "
" Thank you for the food. " Sarah smiled.
" You're welcome. "
" Why'd you do it? " She wanted to know.
" Do what? "
" The food, " Sarah gestured to the table.
Derrick took a sip of water as he adjusted himself properly in the chair, both his arms folded now. " Why did you think? "
Sarah had a similar feeling, but this time it came stronger. She felt like she was being bombarded with obvious questions, " I don't... " She chuckled, " You wanted to rub the fact that you're a good cook in my face? "
Derrick laughed softly, " Did it work? "
" Well yeah... " Sarah beamed with smiles.
" Maybe that and the fact that you always come from work looking like shit... I figured, maybe a meal would help. "
Sarah was enveloped by yet another gush of emotions, and his smiles were helping. She could hear her heart pounding loudly, her thoughts heavy, restless, and misplaced that she feared he might have heard them. She had never thought that Derrick had a soft spot, that he could be this compassionate. Or could it be that she hadn't given him any chance to see who he was? it wasn't like she had all the time in the world to do so. Then there was the thought that he could be the killer, so yeah, she didn't give him a chance.
She was fully submerged in the domain of her thoughts that she was unaware of Derrick's change in location. He had assumed the position of standing next to her as his mouth moved, s**t! he was saying something.
" Huh? " Sarah jerked back to reality.
" You okay? " Derrick arched a brow, his hands now on her shoulders gently poking them to hopefully get a reaction.
