Chapter sevenDelia walked into the drawing room and she was thinking as she did so that the house seemed very quiet. She thought that Lucille could not yet have returned from riding and there was no sign of Captain Ludlow. She was looking carefully to see that there were no dead flowers in the vases, when Lucille came in through the door. She was not in riding clothes but was wearing one of her prettiest summer gowns. “I am sorry to be late, dearest,” she began. Delia looked at her. “I thought you had gone riding.” “No, I was tired this morning.
