The door opened slowly and Jemma oozed through it. She hovered at the threshold for a moment, scanning around her and finally settling on the hallway floor and its steps. She might just have managed a subconscious smile but her mind didn’t yet know why. She gave the door a gentle shove and it clicked shut without fuss. She wanted the door closed to the world, she never wanted to be out there again. She’d have a coffee with lots of brandy in it and sit alone. The logistics of the funeral and which sandwiches to provide at the wake were yet to be registered. Instead she was filled up with all the things her and Salvador had said and done here.
