Nothing could have prepared me for George’s surprise visit to my office. I had just successfully ousted my brother, Jake, from the position he’d tried to steal with the help of Mr. Chen, the head of the board. Buying out Chen’s shares and sacking them both had been immensely satisfying, but it left a trail of bitterness. At least Forbes had nominated me among the top ten most successful billionaire women in NYC. That was a silver lining.
I sat back in my leather chair, savoring the moment. My office, with its floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the bustling streets of New York City, felt like a sanctuary of achievement.
