Julia's POV
There are two chores I hate most in my life. Ironing my clothes and packing a box for a trip.
Having to fit my entire life into several boxes and bags was stressing me the f**k out. I know George promised to take care of all my needs but I just had so many stuffs with good memories I wasn't ready to let go.
It was 7:00 am in the morning and the whole house was a mess while I struggled to drag yet another box to the living room. The fact that the movers would be here any minute was making me panic. I wouldn't want to waste their time, after all, George did inform me about them earlier but I was too lazy to do anything so I binge-watched 'Stranger Things' on Netflix, ate a crap load of Uber meals, and fell asleep bloated while the TV was on all night.
All it took was the sunlight cascading on my face and a painful lash of hunger to get me to jump off the couch and begin my chores.
The sound of the doorbell startled me, followed by a thunderous rattle on the door. I quickly downed my cup of coffee while yelling I was coming.
The knock didn't reduce, instead it intensified like the person was trying to break the door down.
“I'm coming," I yelled harshly, irritated that the movers would try to bang on people's doors without any courtesy. I was getting ready to give them a piece of my mind and report them to George.
I turned the knob only to reveal Monica standing arms akimbo and looking really pissed.
I hissed and shook my head. "You have got some nerves showing up here, what the hell are you doing here?"
She scoffed. "How could you do that to me on my wedding day?” Her eyes were puffy and red like she had been crying all night.
Well, too bad I don’t feel sorry for her. She ruined my life and karma came in earlier for her.
“You are crazy!” I chuckled and tried to slam the door but her favorite pair of red heels blocked the door and she forcefully let herself in.
“You didn’t have to embarrass me in front of my family and guests at my wedding.” She placed her hand on her slender waist.
“Do you hear yourself and how ridiculous you sound?” I c****d a brow. “Theo was the one banging a slut and yet here you are calling me out.”
I frowned, clearly feeling like my day had been ruined before it even started. Monica was the last person I had expected to see that morning.
She wasn’t sorry for betraying me, heck she had no shame even though I caught her with my ex-husband in bed. She was turning the table like I was the one at fault. Her audacity nauseated me.
“He said it was in the past and I believe him.” She followed closely behind me, her blonde ponytail swaying side by side.
“Yet he said she was better in bed compared to you. The video is everywhere online and it is trending. Theo disgraced you.”
She swallowed, folding her arms over her chest and frowning. “They don’t know the truth.”
“And you trust that lying jumbo sized sperm ball?” I c****d a brow, amazed by her gullibility.
“Don’t you dare talk about Theodore like that.” She balled her fists.
Even though she looked like s**t, she still managed to clean up a little nice. She had on a backless black body con gown that stopped mid-thighs and exposed her slim body with curves. Her round face was contorted into a permanent scowl.
“Then you are even more stupid than I thought but what amazes me more is your effrontery to confront me.” I narrowed my eyes on her, hate clearly evident in my face as I tried to spot any form of remorse in her.
“Have you no shame? You slept with my ex-husband!” I banged my fists on the table. “Theo might be a man-w***e but you were the last person I expected this from.”
“Theodore and I have known each other since childhood and I have spent my whole life loving him from afar.” She leaned forward and finger-stabbed me in the chest. Her eyes were small and calculative like a predator stalking its prey.
“You f*****g psycho, you introduced me to him. If you had told me you liked him, I would have stayed the f**k away from him.” I ran my fingers through my hair, my chest was constricted as I felt the pain over-wash me again.
“You don’t get it, do you, Julia?” She bit her lips and her green orbs stared at me coldly. “He was the boy I admired from afar, he was unattainable. I was f*****g friend-zoned for the longest period of time.”
“Listen to me, Monica, get the f**k out of my house this minute. I don’t care what you have to say anymore.” I tried to move away but she shoved me roughly to the couch.
She grabbed my empty mug of coffee and hurled it at me while I ducked my head in fright. “Have you gone crazy? You could have killed me!” My heart was beating so fast.
I could not believe it was my best friend staring at me with a murderous gaze. How did we go from being two peas in a pod to becoming mortal enemies?
“You had no idea how pained I was that he picked you over me while I was dying inside.” She let out a mirthless laughter and she cracked her knuckles.
Her usual fair skin was pale, I had never seen this side of her before. It frightened me to the core. Tears were beginning to stream down my face.
“I tried everything to stop you but you were just so blindly in love with my man.” Her nostrils flared. “All I had to do was seduce him and make him realize what he was missing.”
“Monica, you need to calm the f**k down, please, you are not in your right senses.” I held my hand mid-air, trying to broker peace while looking for a way to dial 911.
I looked around hastily and spotted my phone across the room. I just had to make a run for it before Monica did something insane.
She shook her head and turned her back on me. “Theodore is mine only and I will kill whoever tries to stop me!”
I gently stood up from the couch, tiptoeing towards my phone that was on the other side of the living room but luck was not on my side, the doorbell rang again and Monica turned swiftly to see that I had stood up from where she had me pinned.
She grabbed the flower vase on the table and flung it at me while I screamed loudly, trying to get away from her. She chased after me and caught my leg, making us both collapse into the shreds of broken glasses on the floor.
“Get away from me!” I struggled against her tight grip but she was stronger.
“You want to see crazy?” She yelled angrily. “I will show you what it means to have crossed the line.” She bit my leg while I let out an ear-piercing scream.
I kicked her head with my other leg, crying while struggling to stand. The door opened abruptly to reveal George and his gang of movers. They rushed to help get the crazy lady from me while I bled crazily.
“I am going to kill you, Julia.” She was screaming like a deranged person even after she was lifted off me. She kept thrashing and tossing against the strong grip of the men holding her.
“Leave me alone!” She screamed with eyes shut tightly. “I need to teach the b***h a lesson or two about staying away from her friend’s man.”
“What the hell, Julia? Are you okay?” George rushed towards me and pulled me up, checking my injury. “Can you walk?” His tone was soft and his eyes filled with concern.
Tears were spilling down my face while my body trembled. “She is crazy, get her away from me,” I screamed as beads of sweat-drenched me and a fat one tickled my nape.
“I should get you to the hospital.” George lifted me bridal style like I weighed nothing.
“No, I’m fine, I just need to leave this place.” I buried my face into his neck, sobbing pathetically.
The beautiful scent of his perfume wafted into my nostrils, slowly calming me down. For some reason, I felt safe and protected in his hands as opposed to how vulnerable I used to feel with Theodore.
George didn’t mind that I was staining his expensive suit with my tears and mucus, he simply patted my back and led us out of the apartment while I shivered in shock.
Even after he placed me in his car, took out the shards of glasses from my feet, plastered the injury, and strapped me to the car, I still could not help the feeling of doom that was spreading inside me.
Something was not right. It was like Monica was possessed. I had known her since college and never have I ever assumed she would try to kill me over a man that was not worth it to begin with.
She was not in love with Theodore, she was obsessed and it was wise for my security to leave the apartment and move into George’s apartment just as he suggested.
