7 “I bought you a new shirt from the fabricator in the lobby.” Janet placed the neatly folded garment on the hospital bed. I watched her fingers twitch on the label, normal-sized fingers, normal-sized nails. “Think I got your size right.” “Neat trick,” I said. “The claw thing.” “In-built defensive measure,” she said, forcing a jovial tone. “Only kicks in when my adrenal levels indicate a threat to life.
