Aftermath

Mia  As I slowly started to wake up, I became all too aware that I wasn’t in my own bed. A fluffy white comforter was comfortably tucked around me, and the warm smells of amber and cinnamon flooded my nose. When I felt someone shift, the images of the night came flooding back through my brain and my skin started to feel hot all over again, remembering how she had touched and kissed me. I don’t know what had come over me, but I had done things I’d never done before which felt both terrifying and amazing. With a soft sigh, I rolled over attempting to find a clock, 9:08 am.  “f**k,” I grumbled as I tried to gently get out of the bed. I was late for work and unsure exactly how long it would take me to get there. I found my bag in her living room next to my clothing from the day before and fished out my phone to call the diner and let them know I was on my way. The phone only rang twice before Marv picked up. “Levi’s place, how can I help ya?” he answered.  “Hey Marv, it’s Mia. I’m so sorry I’m not there yet, I’ll be getting on a bus soon and heading that way.”  “Oh, thank heavens! We were worried about you. Levi sent one of the boys to your place, and Miss Lydia said you ain’t been home,” he said with worry lacing his voice.  “I’m okay, I ran into-” I paused a moment not sure what to call her. “A friend. I ended up falling asleep at her place. I’ll be there as soon as I can.” I said quickly as I finished pulling on my jeans and tying my long hair into a quick braid.  “Alright, then Miss, you had best hurry. We’re rather busy right now and Levi called in Lucas for backup.” I couldn’t help but sigh a little at that. Lucas was the youngest of Mr. Jackson's sons and had been a good friend of mine growing up. He was only a year older than me. Recently, however, he had started flirting and asking me out constantly despite me trying to explain that he was more like a brother to me.  “I’m on my way now, see you soon!” I assured him as I hung up the phone. Before leaving Sam’s apartment, I pulled out the small notebook that I used to take orders and wrote a quick note to her apologizing for leaving, giving her my number, and asking her to meet me at the diner tonight so that I could make it up to her. I placed it on the small table in front of her couch and headed out the door.  Once outside, I was able to get my bearings on where I was. There was a bus stop about a block away, so I walked as quickly as I could and sat down to wait.  “Good morning Oliver!” I said as I got on the bus and scanned my card.  “Good morning Miss,” he paused for a moment, as he looked at me, “Never made it home last night, I see,” he smiled at me knowingly and I felt the blush warm my cheeks as I moved towards the back to take a seat. Today felt like it was going to be a very long day of explaining myself.
