I saw Anne Marie calling. I answered it immediately in panic.
"Where are you, Sheen May? Where are you in the world? Where did you go? Did you run away?" She shouted one question after another as if she had been babbling for a while.
"Why?" I asked for an answer.
"Why? Your parents have been looking for you for some time now! They've been looking for you with me! Where the hell are you right now?"
"I don't know how long, but I'm far away," I replied.
"What? What's your trip in life, Sheen May? I asked you out, but you declined to go. Then now you're running away?" Her voice sounds so annoyed but worried at the same time. I can admit that it was not the first time she acted like this, but it was scary, as if she had been stuck in a situation because of me.
"Anne, let's keep this conversation secret. I wish to stay away. I need to find a way to calm down completely. This is the very first and very last time that you will call me.
"Sheen May, what are you talking about? Jhon Re—"
I hung up before turning off my phone. I removed everything, even the sim, so I couldn't be traced if Dad ever found me. I don't want to go back yet, and I haven't decided when I will go back.
I'm okay here.
I feel like I'll be okay if I live here for a while. It's life-changing.
"You ran away from your family?" I was surprised when Danica asked me. The book she was reading was already on her thighs.
I nodded.
"Why?"
I smiled. "Long story."
"Family problem? Love life?" She inquired, piqued by the fact that I didn't think that she'd be curious.
"You know, I'm not used to going out, but do you want to wander around the square tonight?" she asked. I don't know what she has because she made me say yes. As much as I refused Anne before, I have agreed to Danica's offer to go out of my zone.
After a brief period of time had passed, the afternoon arrived. I was able to borrow some of Danica's clothes. It's a shame that I'm not used to wearing an off-shoulder dress, but it's probably better for me to wear it rather than costly clothes because people could stare at me if I wear those.
I also wore flat sandals. I saw Danica come down the stairs. I looked up to see Danica making her way down the steps. When I first noticed how graceful and understated her motions were, I almost lost my ability to breathe. a very different movement than mine. When compared to Anne, I used to believe that I was the most modest woman, but it turns out that someone will bounce off my modesty even more.
"Shall we go?" she asked.
I smiled.
We made our way to the square on foot. It's not far off, and it's funny because it seems like there's a show broadcasting in the center of it all. A large number of individuals as well as a large number of restaurants are clattering everywhere.
"Are you happy with what you see?" Danica's inquiry put her in the position of acting as a tour guide in their stead.
"Yes, it's my first time seeing things like these," I expressed.
"I am the same way, you know? Apart from always being at home and reading, I don't have anyone to go out with, so I choose not to go to these kinds of parties. I only go out to shop for food to eat, nothing else," she explained. I seem to have found someone like me. I didn't even go out like that when I lived with us. The number of times I leave the house can only be counted on my fingers because, apart from my dad being strict, I've been watched for every move. Only in my room can I experience true freedom.
"Danica! What did you eat that made you leave your house? Did you want to answer Niel's offer to be his girlfriend? That's why you're here." Asked a man who suddenly walked towards where we were. This man is muscular and tall. He flashes a charming grin that brings out the best in his good looks.
"Who told you that was my aim? I would rather die as a young woman than give my answer to that arrogant man!" Danica answered as she hit the fan she carried in the air and fanned herself. I just saw her upset. Well, she is still beautiful to look at.
"What's that? He's been waiting for you for a long time. Why don't you want to answer him yet?"
"Eh, I don't want to, is there anything else you can do? If you wish, just answer him so the two of you will be happy!"
"You're so harsh, Danica!" That man looked at me. His eyes shone, and his smile grew wider. "Oh, who is this beautiful young lady with you?"
"My brother's friend," answered Danica, who continued to fan herself as if she were getting confused by the number of questions from the man in front of us.
"I'm Rey John, by the way; may I ask what your name is, young lady?"
I was stunned.
Instantaneously, the anxiousness that was already present in my chest grew.
Why did his parents choose that particular name out of the many options available for naming their child?
"He's not interested in you, so get out! You're blocking our path!" Danica asked before completely pulling me away from the man's presence. It was a good thing that he got me out of there, because I had no idea how to leave where I was.
"Are you all right, Sheen May?" When we were seated at the restaurant in town, Danica asked me about it.
I nodded.
"Really? When Rey John introduced himself to you, you had a different expression on your face than usual. Is there something wrong with his name?"
I shook my head. "I just remembered my boyfriend."
"Do you have a boyfriend?" She looks shocked.
"I used to, but he ended our relationship."
I saw her gape. "I'm sorry to hear that. Is that the reason you're here—so that you can put him out of your mind?
I shook my head. "I'll never be able to forget the one I adore. It's too difficult and impossible."
"Then why are you here?"
