Chapter 6

1888 Words
Daisy laughs as Boone tells her in an animated way what happened the night before. Another nanny was trying to seduce him again by coming to his suite naked. “Oh, Goddess,” Daisy says between her laughs. “These women, just one bad apple after another. How did Moira vet them anyway? She keeps on bragging about how she spent hours vetting them.” “Apparently not very well,” Boone says. “I wonder about it myself. Moira’s vetting system needs improvement.” Daisy rolls her eyes. “Tell me about it,” she says. “Although in her defense, she has been working too hard. We have to give her a break.” Moira is Boone’s personal secretary who also happens to be Mason’s big sister. Daisy doesn’t really like her very much; she thinks that Moira is a fake. But Daisy adores Mason so she keeps her opinion about Moira to herself. Besides, Boone needs her, she’s an efficient secretary. “Don’t look for a nanny anymore, please,” Daisy starts again. “I love Seraphina, let me take care of her, Boone.” “But honey I can’t let you do that,” Boone protests. “You’re young and you have a life in front of you. It’s not fair for me to ask you to sacrifice yourself for me and Seraphina.” “It won’t be a sacrifice,” Daisy argues. “I promise. I really do love doing it.” “Still no,” Boone says, sterner this time. “Besides, I might have a solution for that problem thanks to Mason.” Daisy’s eyes widen. “Is that so?” she asks. “How’s that?” “Well,” Boone starts. “Mason thinks that we’ve been wrong in our requirement for a nanny. We want the nanny to be young and unattached.” “Right,” Daisy says. “I kind of agreed with him. But that’s because we want them to be energetic and able to focus on Seraphina.” “But at the same time these women are somehow under the impression that they can serve me as well, being young and still without a mate,” Boone points out “So Mason then suggested that we look for someone older than me but is still young and healthy enough. Someone over thirty-five but under forty-five.” “That makes sense,” Daisy says. “But then these women are usually attached, with a husband and kids. They may not be able to focus on Seraphina.” “Not according to Mason,” Boone says. “I can hire a widower, like Mason’s own mother. Mason’s father died with my father at the war six years ago, making his mother a widower. She’s forty-two, not that old. She loves children and used to be a kindergarten teacher.” “She sounds perfect,” Daisy says. “And she’s Mason’s mother, I don’t think she will go to your bedroom naked to seduce you.” Now Boone laughs. “Yep,” he says, rubbing the back of his neck. “I don’t know how to put a stop to this nonsense.” “That’s a lie,” Daisy says, laughing with him. “You do know. You just need to remarry. Boone, you’ve been a widower for three years now and you’re still young. Until you take a Luna, these women will never stop trying to get your attention.” “You know somebody?” Boone asks, then winks. Daisy blushes a little. Should she tell him that she knows about Camellia? That one time over a year earlier she overheard Boone’s conversation with her? Probably shouldn’t, it’s not her place to do so anyway. Boone will tell her himself when he is ready. “It’s been three years,” Daisy says instead. “Are you not seeing anybody?” Boone sighs. It might be a good idea if he tells her the truth. He hasn’t told anybody about Camellia, not even his Beta nor his Gamma. Although somehow, he thinks that they both have suspected it. Well, of him seeing someone, they just didn’t know who. Yet. The thing is, there is nothing to tell, though. He loves and respects Camellia, more than he ever did Theresa. She’d be perfect for him, for his kingdom. Camellia is kind and wonderful. Boone has been with Camellia six months after Theresa’s demise. And over time, he’s asked her to marry him, to be his chosen mate, to rule the kingdom together with him as his Luna Queen. She said no. Every single time. Camellia is twenty-five years old but she’s still waiting for her fated mate. She hasn’t lost hope yet. She could’ve been the Luna Queen of a very powerful and prosperous kingdom, yet, she chose to wait for her fated mate. Her fated mate could be anybody less powerful than Boone, she would still choose him. A woman like that is what Boone is craving for. He made a mistake when choosing Theresa, but he won’t with Camellia. Except, despite also having feelings for him, Camellia will never say yes to his proposal. Her perseverance is noble, she is noble. Boone will need to look for someone else, someone who is as noble and as kind as Camellia. Like perhaps, Daisy. “What?” Daisy asks, frowning. “Why are you looking at me like that?” Boone laughs, all of a sudden embarrassed with his own thoughts and grateful that Daisy is not a mind reader. “Nothing,” he says, standing up. “Walk me out?” Daisy nods. Hand in hand they walk out of Daisy’s room to the foyer where Moira is waiting. She’s about to smile at Boone, but when she sees how intimate Boone and Daisy are towards each other, her face becomes sour. “Good morning, Sir,” Moira greets, while ignoring Daisy. “We’re all set, but we have to go now. We’re late.” Boone laughs. “No, we’re not,” he answers, dismissing her comment. He then pays his attention back to Daisy. “I’m gonna have to leave now, love. Be safe and take care of Seraphina for me, yeah?” Daisy smiles. “Of course, Boone,” she answers. “Be safe yourself.” “Always, baby girl,” Boone answers. He smiles before giving her kisses on her crown, her nose, and both her cheeks. He then hugs her tight for a long time, Daisy hugs him back. Moira turns around. She loathes the fact that Daisy can be so intimate with Boone and that she’s able to call him just Boone. Moira tried that one time, calling him just Boone instead of Sir or Alpha King. Boone was not happy, in fact, he was angry. She was reprimanded, he even threatened to fire her for being presumptuous. Moira never tried it again after, she didn’t want to lose her job. But Daisy does have an advantage over any other women who are interested in being Boone’s lover. She is twenty years old, easy on the eyes, smart, attentive, and seemingly loved by a lot of people. She is also the sister of the late Luna Queen and has been taking care of her niece, Boone’s daughter. It’s been known that men tend to marry the sisters of their late wives since the transition is easier for everybody, especially the children. All that makes Moira hate Daisy more. She’s an obstacle, one that needs removed. *** Daisy waits until Mason is finished talking on the phone with his mother. When he hangs up, she asks, “So, is she coming to the palace today?” Mason nods. “Yep,” he answers. “The Alpha King is not back yet. So Luna Andrea and Beta Bradley will interview her, instead. After that, I will take her here to meet with you and Princess Seraphina so you can see her for yourself. She’s nervous about working for the King and all, so please be kind to her, sweet cheeks.” Daisy laughs. “Of course, I will, Mason,” she says. “From the way you explain her to me I think I like her already. She is what Seraphina needs, a woman who knows how to take care of a pup with no other hidden agenda.” “Then you can start focusing on yourself,” Mason says with a gentle smile on his face. “You should.” Daisy raises one eyebrow. “Did Boone make you say that?” Mason is Boone’s personal warrior; they spend a lot of time together since his job is to guard the King. Mason doesn’t always travel with Boone, though. He’s not the only warrior that is assigned to guard him, they all have to take a rotation. Plus, Mason doesn’t like to travel with Moira. She’s such a stuck up it embarrasses him. Mason laughs. “Not particularly, no,” he answers. “But we do talk about you quite often since we both love you. I do agree with him, though. How can you find your fated mate if you’re always just cooped up here at the palace? You know, the King once told me that he noticed us becoming friends since you were only sixteen. He said that he would approve us should we were fated mate, so he was waiting. Like, the truth is, I too was waiting.” Daisy smiles, she blushes a little. The truth is, she too was waiting. In all honesty, there were two men that made her heart skipped a beat or two when she was around them: Boone and Mason. When she became eighteen, she was anxiously waiting to know who she was mated to. When she found out that she wasn’t mated to any of those men, her heart broke a little. “I was waiting too,” Daisy says. “My heart broke when I found out that we weren’t. I still love you, though.” “I know sweet cheeks,” Mason says. “My heart broke also, but I still love you too.” “Oh, Mason,” Daisy says, sighing. “Are we ever going to find our fated mates?” “It has been difficult for a lot of people here, right?” Mason says, agreeing. “Misery loves company, I mean I haven’t, you haven’t, Moira hasn’t.” “Boone hasn’t either,” Daisy chimes in. “Yeah the King has,” Mason argues. “With your own sister, remember? Luna Queen Theresa. Wait, you probably meant second chance mate? Well, Moon Goddess don’t usually give second chance mates, that’s very rare. The King can have a chosen mate and he should. The Kingdom needs a Luna Queen, now. It’s been three years, it’s due.” Ups, a blunder there. Like most people, Mason doesn’t know that Boone and Theresa weren’t fated mates. “Yep,” Daisy says. “I meant a second chance mate.” “Well,” Mason says. “Like I said, second chance mate is rare. Anyways, I have to go now. I need to see my mother and bring her here. Later, alligator.” Daisy rolls her eyes. “You’re the alligator.” ***
