She remembered the moment that Andre was referring to and she remembered what she did but now, the same question was pounding against the back of her head. Deep down in her heart, she knew what the answer was but she couldn’t dare to admit it to herself or Andre. So, she decided to pretend not to remember so he wouldn’t keep asking why.
“I don’t remember doing any of that. All I can recollect was that he hit me and was taking me back to my mother so I tried to get away from him. Everything that happened after that is a blur,” she said, hoping that it was enough to satisfy him.
“I see,” Andre said, sounding a little disappointed.
