Chapter 5: Failed Attempt

2122 Words
Andre and his men were in their cars, driving back to his estate. A thousand thoughts were flying around in his head as he contemplated his next actions but, before he could think about the future, he had to make sure that his present was stable. Andre took out his phone and called the guard that he had assigned to watch over Gabriella's every move. He was placed at her door and was to take her wherever she wanted or get her whatever she needed. "Alphonso, is she safe and being looked after?" Andre asked when the guard answered the phone. "Yes, boss. I'm standing right outside her door and I can hear her moving inside. She's alright," Alphonso, the guard replied. "Okay, listen to me. I'm on my way back right now and I want you to watch her even more closely than you have been. Make sure nothing happens to her. Make sure nothing hurts her, not even a mosquito bite. Do you understand?" Andre said intensely. "I understand, sir," he replied. "Go into the room and make sure she's not trying to do anything that could harm her. Now, so I can hear it," Andre shouted. "Yes, boss," Alphonso remained on the phone as he turned the key and opened the door. He stuck a portion of his body into the room and saw Gabriella lying on the bed. She sat up and wondered why he was there and what he was looking at. "Excuse me, miss. Are you alright?" Alphonso asked. "Yes, I'm fine," Gabriella answered with a raised brow. "Do you need me to do anything for you?" He asked again. "Yeah...Get me out of here. Can you give me that?" She asked aggressively. "No, I can't," "Then, get the f**k out," she yelled. "As you can hear, boss. She's alright," Alphonso said on the phone just as he closed the door. "Good!" Andre said before hanging up. Gabriella heard the guard say that she was alright and she heard him say "boss" which to her, meant that he was talking to Andreas. She was smart enough to piece things together and her intuition told her that he must now know her true identity, which was why he was calling to make sure she was alright. He knew now that she was the only living child of Carolina Rossi. The clock was ticking and she needed to get out now. Gabriella jumped out of bed and began pacing around the room. What could she do? How could she escape? She needed an answer but none was forthcoming. And then, she thought of something. It would be risky and quite daring but if executed properly, it could work and she could have her freedom before the psycho returned to kill her. She walked over to the flower vase on her bed stand and felt it with her palm. It was made of hard clay which meant it could cut through flesh easily. She smiled mischievously and took out the bouquet of turnips that were inside the vase. While standing outside and minding his business, Alphonso suddenly heard a crash come from inside Gabriella's room. It sounded like glass breaking apart which was followed by Gabriella's panicked screams. "Miss? Miss, are you okay?" Alphonso called out as he put the key in the keyhole and opened the door. He burst into the room and found her unconscious on the floor, bleeding from her arm with broken ceramics all around her. "Oh no! Miss!" Alphonso screamed and ran over to her. He turned her over and saw the cut on her arm and shook her around, trying to wake her up. "Miss, please wake up," he cried out but she wasn't coming to. "The boss is going to kill me," Alpha said to himself and pulled out his phone so he could report the incident to Andre. He put the phone on his ear and turned his attention away from Gabriella. Just before he could get through to Andre, Gabriella suddenly opened her eyes and snatched his gun out of his holster and pointed it at him. "Hang up the phone. Now!" Gabriella didn't look like she was playing around. The guard could see in her eyes that she wouldn't hesitate to shoot him if he gave her a reason to, so he hung up the call before it began to ring. "Make any sudden movement and you're dead. Lay flat on the ground or I swear to God, I'll shoot you," she said and gestured at the floor. Alphonso raised his hands and did as she instructed. "I'd advise you to stop whatever it is you plan on doing. You won't make it far before you're caught and if you shoot me, the other guards will hear it and they'll come for you," Alphonso said to her. "Keep your stupid advice to yourself," Gabriella grabbed his phone, still pointing the weapon at his head, "I'm not going to remain here just so your boss can kill me." She backed away toward the door and went outside. She turned the key and locked him inside the room. Now, she needed to sneak out without being seen. She knew she was at the upper part of the house which meant she needed to find a flight of stairs that would take her down. She ran barefoot along the large corridors, scampering around silently although her heart was pounding as loud as jungle drums. She hid from the guards she heard walking through the house and when they were far from her, she continued trying to find the stairs...until she did. She ran down the stairs and as soon as she got to the foot of them, she bumped into a maid. "Oh, goodness me!" The maid exclaimed in fear. "Shh! Don't make a sound," Gabriella warned her, waving the gun at her. The maid panicked and ran away from her. Gabriella wanted to stop her so she wouldn't alert the house's security of her escape but she didn't. She needed to get out before they found her. She made it to the main door and as soon as she opened it, she saw a detail of three cars parking just outside. Andreas was back and if she went out, he would surely see and catch her. She had to go back inside. She turned around and saw Alphonso and four others standing behind her. The others had their guns drawn and pointed them at her. "Don't shoot her! The boss wants her to be kept alive. Keep your weapons away," Alphonso yelled at the other guards. Gabriella knew now that they couldn't hurt her so she screamed at them to get out of the way and let her pass but they didn't. "I'll kill all of you. Get out of the f*****g way..." She said hysterically, desperate to escape. "Personally, I don't think you'll be killing anyone tonight... Gabriella Rossi," Andre said from behind her. Gabriella turned around and pointed her gun at him. His men, including the ones that returned with him, raised their guns but he gestured that they put them away. They did as he had commanded and he turned his attention back to Gabriella. "I had a nice talk with your mother. She's asked me to have you delivered to her before midnight tonight," Andre said and took a step forward in her direction. "Stay back or I'll shoot you," she warned. "She sounded very serious and threatened to go to war with me if I refuse to return you," he said and took another step. "I'm not going back to her," Gabriella cried out, thinking that Andre intended to send her back to her mother. "Oh, I don't plan on giving you back to her. I plan on keeping you here," "That's not going to happen either. Now, get out of my way or I'll shoot you in the face," she threatened. "If you do that, you're surely going to die," Andre told her. "And so will you. Am I really worth your life?" She wondered. "Oh, Gabriella! You're worth more than you know. You're going to remain here until I decide on what to do with you so, if you're going to shoot me, I suggest you do it now," Andre was now standing right in front of her and the gun was touching his chest. He held her gaze without blinking, his eyes calling her bluff as her hands shook violently. "Go on!" Andre grabbed the gun and pulled it closer to his chest, "Do it. Shoot!" He yelled. Gabriella couldn't bring herself to squeeze the trigger. She was sweating all over and despite her desperation, she couldn't shoot. Her eyes were reddened due to her hot tears and she could barely remain on her feet. Andre pulled the gun out of her grasp and threw it over to Alphonso. "Escort the lady back to her room," he ordered and walked away. Alphonso walked over to her and tried to grab her hand but she pulled away from him. He held her waist and she began to scream for him to let go. "Get your hands off me, you i***t," she cried out and punched him in the face. Andre stopped in his tracks, angered by her stubbornness. He turned around and galloped over to her. She saw him coming and the lack of humour on his face made her panic. "What do you think you're..." She tried to ask but she couldn't. Andre picked her off the floor and carried her over his shoulder. She squealed when he did so, having been caught off guard. "Let go of me! Put me down, you bastard. Put me down," she screamed. She shook around, hitting him on his back several times, trying to get free but it was of no use. Andre carried her back up the stairs while she continued screaming. He reached her room and kicked the door open. He carried her inside and strode over to the bed where he threw her on her back. "You have no right to treat me like this," she shouted and tried to get up but he pushed her back down. She got up again and he pushed her yet again. She tried to stand again but this time, Andre got on the bed and pinned her down with the weight of his body. "You don't seem to know when to give up, do you?" He said hoarsely. She remained insolent and spat in his face. Andre wiped her spit off him with his hand and brought his face closer to hers. She saw him get closer and she thought he was going to force a kiss on her again. She closed her eyes and turned her lips away, shaking in anticipation for what she knew was coming, what she didn't want to want but for some reason, she did want. His mouth stopped right beside her ear and he whispered a warning to her. "I don't intend to hurt you but if you ever spit on me or draw my blood ever again, I won't be held responsible for my actions. You're not my enemy. Your mother is...so I hope you work with me to keep it that way. "Do you understand?" He asked. Something about the way he spoke to her sent chills through her entire body. She could see the seriousness in his eyes and she could hear it in his words and it scared her. It truly did. So, as passively as she could, she nodded affirmatively to his question. "Good!" Andre got off her and walked out of her room, leaving her mind within a tornado of different emotions. She was here to stay for a very long time and only Andreas Cimaro would decide when that time would be over. She knew this now and at that moment, every thought about escaping had completely escaped her mind. Gabriella sat up on the bed and softly stroked the tattoo on her arm and was fighting to hold back the tears that were threatening to fall out of her eyes. She remembered the day her mother forced her to get the tattoo drawn; having told her that it was the best way to protect her because that symbol would be more than just ink on her skin; it would be a warning to anyone who tried to mess with her not to because the King’s Gold were feared by everyone. Turns out not everyone was scared of them and a symbol that was meant to protect her was now the reason why she was imprisoned. Her curse, her prison and her torment.
