Chapter Two

Olivia watched in utter disbelief as Amanda, her best friend burst into a peal of laughter after narrating what went down in the meeting she had with Joe Peters.  "I don't see what's funny Ami, we're talking about my life, my career, my promotion!"  Amanda finally stopped laughing, she took a sip of her lemonade, then replied Olivia. "Almost two weeks ago, we were seated on this same couch, watching one of George's movies and you did nothing but criticize his acting skills. Now, you have to coach him for a big role. Isn't it surprising how life works?"  Olivia rolled her eyes.  Amanda stared at her with a small smile playing on the edges of her lips.  "Don't give me that look, Ami, You literally forced me to see that movie. You kept on hyping George a lot and I contradicted you, stating the facts."  "So, he isn't a good actor?" Amanda raised her perfectly shaped eyebrow. "I didn't say that. I just feel you guys hype him way too much. Much more than he deserved."  Amanda smiled, "You're wrong, babe. George Westlan is not overrated, he's really talented and very good at what he does. To top it all, he has the looks for the profession which is an added advantage to him. I think he's the only celebrity with the most female fans."  "Yeah, why not? You kept mentioning how sexy he was on our movie night. Remember?" Olivia voiced out.  Amanda sighed. "I really don't know what you have against this dude. Honestly, you are very lucky this task was appointed to you. I would give anything in this world to coach George for a role."  "Don't you know what that means Olivia?, Apart from you getting to spend one on one time with him, it will forever be in the books that you impacted his career and who knows, because of that, you guys might end up being friends."  "Friends with a spoiled brat? I don't even think my coaching will count as an impact because he's paying for my services."  Ami chuckled, "We don't really know if he's a spoiled brat. We can't always believe what we read or hear in the media. He may not be that bad you know?"  Olivia sighed. "Honestly, I would give anything for me not to coach George Westlan. But Mr Peters said I'm the only one in the firm who they trust to handle his cockiness and help him too." "That, I agree! George is quite bossy so he needs a match, someone like you who wouldn't hesitate to put him in his place." "Wow! Someone like me. You make me sound very harsh and scary." Olivia admitted.  "Beneath the disciplined and fearless you, is the kindest person I've ever known in my life, Olivia. I love your personality, you're always in control of everything. You know when and how to call a spade a spade, and you also know when to show your soft side."  "They knew I would refuse such an offer on a normal day. That's why they tied it to my promotion, knowing I would have no choice but to give in." "I don't know why you feel this way about George. You're the only person I know that hates his gut and isn't excited about working with him."  "Hate is a strong word. I do not hate him, Amanda. I'm just not his fan and the fact that I need to have something to do with him before my deserved promotion is given to me just makes my blood boil." A small smile played on Amanda's lips as she watched Olivia talk. She knew there was something more to her not being a fan of George but she decided not to push further.  "Have you reached out to him yet? When will you guys be having your first coaching session." "Not yet. I'll need to reach out to him very soon so we can conclude on what schedule works for us and then get straight to work."  "Good luck with that, babe. Just make the best of your time with him. But be careful, it's not every day George gets to work with a beautiful lawyer so he might want to hit on you."  Olivia chuckled, "I know I'm pretty but not prettier than the people that throw themselves at him. So I'm sure I don't have anything to worry about."  "Enough about me and George, how's my god baby doing, I hope she's not taking a toll on you?" Olivia asked, taking a glance at her best friend's still flat stomach. Amanda was just two months pregnant. "I'm good and so is the little cutie in me. I hardly have any bump yet but the morning sickness is hell. Besides, your god baby might be a boy ma'am" Amanda reminded.  Olivia smiled, "I know, but I really want a girl for you and Tyler."  "Unfortunately, Tyler wants a baby boy."  "Ahhhh, he's such a spoiler. But I'm fine with any gender."  "Sorry about the morning sickness, the further you go in your pregnancy, the lesser the sickness becomes."  "You've never been pregnant yet you know so much about babies."  Olivia shrugged, "Got the little knowledge from my sisters' pregnancies."  "So, when are you planning on settling down?" Ami mumbled. "Don't you like the idea of giving your goddaughter a playmate?"  It took a while for Olivia to respond because she was trying to put her heart and situations into words. Usually, she would avoid Ami's questions relating to her relationship life but it wouldn't make any sense to keep avoiding them. She would be 30 in a few months so it was okay to call a spade a spade.  "I would love to have a little girl but I don't see that happening soon. Maybe that's why I'm praying so hard for you and Tyler's baby to be a girl."  "I also don't see myself settling down with someone. My parents do say I'm strong-headed, rude and don't have a heart of submission to keep a man. Maybe they are right after all."  Amanda bridged the gap between her best friend and herself then intertwined their hands.  "You don't have to believe all that they say, Liv, You aren't that kind of person."  Olivia shrugged. "Everything about me disgusts my parents so everything and anything they say doesn't surprise me anymore."  "Amanda, just like every other woman, I would love to experience what it's like to have someone who loves me beyond words and is willing to reciprocate the same respect I'm willing to give him. But what I've come to understand is that being a successful career woman has its challenges."  "Men find it hard to approach me because of some reasons I don't understand and the ones that finally muster the courage to do so, I politely declined them because I wasn't interested in them." "You remember Liam? The one who got promoted as a partner last year in my firm?" Amanda nodded. "He asked me out too," "For real? You didn't say anything to me." "I chose to keep quiet because I didn't want to keep anyone's hopes up."  "Honestly, I've always seen Liam as nothing more than a colleague and I was shocked when he asked me out. I chose to give us a try and we didn't even last two months."  "A few months after that was when Tyler introduced me to Kyle, we dated too but didn't last." Liv heaved a sigh. "I think the problem is with me. Contrary to what my parents said, I'm more than willing to submit to a guy who is also ready to be submissive to me. But I don't know if I'm capable of loving someone. I'm really weird. I now understand why my parents hate my gut."  Amanda gave Liv's hand a light squeeze. "You're not weird Olivia, you just haven't found the right guy who will sweep you off your feet."  Olivia interrupted. " And I don't think I ever will."  "You will find him soon Amiga and when you do, I'll be here to listen to you talk about how his touch and kisses make you feel." Olivia playfully nudged Amanda's shoulder which made her chuckle. "Don't change who you are for anyone. The person that will love you endlessly will soon come knocking at your door, just be vigilant so you'll hear him when he knocks."  "You always know what to say to make me feel better. Thank you."  Amanda smiled. "You're welcome."  Olivia and Amanda engaged in some more conversations before Ami announced it was time to go home to her Fiance, Tyler.  Olivia's apartment was just a few minutes drive away from Amanda's office so that gave Ami a chance to always pop in and check up on her very busy friend from time to time to make sure she was still sane and hadn't overworked herself.  Olivia escorted Amanda to her car and returned to her apartment after she drove away.  She sighed as soon as she shut the door behind her and took a full glance at her home, her luxurious two-bedroom apartment, decorated with the finest pieces of furniture to suit her taste. It was also spotlessly clean.  Olivia proceeded to her bedroom, changed into her comfy nightdress, put her hair in a messy bun and applied her skincare products.  When she was done, she picked up her handbag, laptop and the file that Mr Peters handed to her earlier today, then made her way to the living room. Just like every other night, before settling on the carpet or on the sofa to do some work, Olivia dashed to the kitchen for a glass of wine.  She returned to the living room, settled on the carpet with her back resting against the sofa, then she got to work.  This was Olivia's life. She was used to peace, quiet, work and her privacy.  Liv reviewed a few documents, did some online research, sent out a couple of emails to her colleagues and clients then finally decided to take a look at George's file. She was too pissed to look at it at work which was why she focused on other things after her meeting with the senior partner.  The papers in the file contained an explanation of George's role, the law related stuff he needed to know and the deadline which was going to be a few days to when they would start shooting.  Olivia also saw a complementary card in the file. It had both George's personal and management's phone numbers, emails, home and offices address.  After weighing options on which contact to use to reach out to George, She took her laptop and began typing a message.  Never in her wildest dreams would she have thought sending this email to George would be the first step to one of the many surprises life had for her.
