Adam stared at his phone as it rang once, then twice. Then reason took over and he swiped on the call from Janey. “Hey,” he said, his voice gruffer than he meant it to be. He cleared his throat, wishing he’d thought further ahead than a greeting. The texting had been going well. He could ask her out easily that way. But talking to her? His heart danced in his chest like it was trying to tango its way out.
