FLORA'S POV The cab dropped me off at a small supermarket a few blocks from the house. I needed a distraction, something to keep my hands busy before I had to look Eugene in the eye and change our lives forever. I walked down the quiet aisles, my mind spinning at a thousand miles an hour. *How is he going to take this?* Eugene was a man who planned everything, a man who controlled every variable. A baby wasn't in his quarterly projections. And Emily—god, Emily was my friend. We were nearly the same age. How could I look her in the face and tell her I was having her father’s child?
