Forever Betrayed

Chapter 1

My name is April, and I had just turned eighteen and was super excited because that means she would be able to shift and find my mate. I have waited for this day for what seems like forever. I am the daughter of Bata Charles and Laura. I am a member of one of the most notorious packs in the east, the Dark Forest Pack. I loved where I lived in the woods of Roanoke, Virginia, even though life was far from perfect. It is quite the opposite. I am a shy girl who no one likes. As if that was not bad enough, the popular kids like to torture me.

Even though I am the daughter of Beta. I was the focus of everyone's bullying. I am by no means the most beautiful. I was tall for a she-wolf, standing at 5'8", which is taller than most she-wolves. I have long smooth red hair and freckles that cover my cheeks. I also have the brightest sea foam green eyes. I am not super skinny, unlike most shoe-wolves, but I am by no means fat. I have more legs then the rest of my body. My face has freckles on it. I consider myself to be beautiful. But I am slightly awkward. I am shy and try not to make myself known.

I figure it has something to do with me getting my wolf early. Most females, which are not alphas, get their wolves at sixteen. While Alphas get theirs at the age of twelve, like me. My parents took me to the pack doctor because they thought there was something wrong with me. The doc gave me a clean bill of health, even though he could not explain why my wolf came early.

My wolfs name is Lilith. She is an all-white wolf, which is another thing that is odd. Pure white wolves are very rare. As in there has only been one in the last century. I never let anyone see me transform. They know I have my wolf but have never seen her. They all assume that she is meek like me. She is quite the opposite she likes balusters for me. Sometimes I am afraid of the repercussions of it. You can tell she is coming out when my eyes go from sea foam blue to bright green with specks of brown in them.

I tried to tell my parents, but they were too busy with doing their duties to the pack, it seemed like they forgot they even have a daughter. I even tried going to the Alpha and Luna, but of course they did not believe me because my biggest bully was their son, the future Alpha Declan. I was sentenced to making breakfast for the whole pack and I was not allowed to eat with the pack. I was forced to eat in the kitchen by myself. At least they allowed me to eat. I have heard stories of alphas forbidding one to eat if they anger the Alpha.

Declan is one of the most popular kids. It is just because he is the alpha’s son, but what do I know? I have never been a part of the “in” crowd. He stands at 6’7” and is muscular in all the right places. He has sandy blond hair cut short to his head, piecing blue eyes that feels like he is penetrating your soul. I am the awkward shy girl who sits in the back with a hood on my head and prays to the goddess that I do not get called on. The teachers know about the torture that I go through, but they will not do anything about it. They will not go against Declan because he can make everyone’s life a living hell.

On a normal day, the torture consists of my books being knocked out of my hands, tripped as they walk past, and the names they produce are never-ending. But on days that are worse I get shoved into lockers, the guys throwing sharp objects at me in class, and the girls are no better. They will physically attack me unprovoked.

I have no idea why I was the center of their aggression. I would go out of my way to avoid them. I did not like going to the pack house, even for pack meetings. But what happens when my biggest bully turns out to be my mate?

Today is a new day and I praying to the goddess that I can remain invisible today. No one wants to be tortured on their birthday. I woke up extra early so I could eat my breakfast in peace, but that was short lived. As I sat down at the table, I smelled the sweetest smell of wood and lavender. When I turned around, Declan was there staring at me with disgust in his eyes. Of course, why would today be any different for me? I am cursed.

I stared directly at him with fear in my eyes. The goddess even wants to torture me. I do not know what I did to deserve the life I lead. I try to be a good person. I do as I am asked. Even my own parents neglect me. Today is my birthday and I get blessed with the biggest asshole in school. I just want to run away and never turn back.

“Moon goddess why must you laugh at me as well?” I asked. I, of course, never got an answer. I do not know what to do when Declan went to speak. The look of disgust makes me want to crawl under a rock and to never show my face again.

Declan blurted out before he could stop himself. “Mate” he yelled before he could stop himself. He stands up and knocks his chair over as he sulks to me. “I will never accept you as my mate and Luna, so don’t get your hopes up.” He said. I can feel my wolf Lily start to stir and I hope she does not wake up completely. I can feel the tears threatening to fall down my cheeks. I am trying my best to never let him see me cry no matter how much it hurts. I felt Lily yawn and finally wake up. Lily wakes up just in time to hear Declan say. “You will never be good enough for anyone.”

I go to walk away when Declan grabs my arm and Lily growls as the sparks spread through my body and sent chills down my spine. Lily takes over. She has always been braver than me. “Remove your hand from me this instant.” She roared at Declan. It must have shocked him because he dropped my arm. At this point, the pack slut Ashley walks in.

I turn to walk away again just as Declan drug Ashley out of the room and towards his bedroom. I told myself I did not care, but that is when a worse pain struck me like never before. Strong enough to drop me to my knees. “Two can play that game. Just hang on for a few minutes longer April.” Lilith said in my head. I try to nod but the pain is too much.
