Chapter 22 Ignited!

Xinli's palms involuntarily went to his chest to stop him from getting closer. She could feel the hard muscles beneath her hands, warm and strong. Her hands trembled at the close contact. "Please stop, we are in the office... it is inappropriate." She said incoherently.

He smiled, there was a glint in his eyes that signalled the surrender of his captive. "... i have a private resting room in this office, we can continue where we left off two years ago..." his warm breath was fanning the side of her neck, his lips slightly touching the tip of her ear. A thousand bolts hit her insides and ignited a kind of fire that only Lu Jinian can put off. But she knew better. Though her heart was erratic, her mind was active.

Xinli closed her eyes and with all the force she could muster, she suddenly pushed him away, which caught him off guard. "You are disgusting! I hate you!" Tears started to well up in her eyes. Lu Jinian grabbed her wrists and pushed her back on the chair.

"Let go of me, are you crazy?" But Xinli's cries went to deaf ears.

He was leaning down, with every intention of capturing her lips, when suddenly, someone knocked and the door swang open. Huang Lin and Cheng Yue, followed by Lanxin were surprised at the scene that they just witnessed.

"What on earth is going on?" Lu Jinian's mother took one look at Xinli's red eyes and flushed face and she immediately went to her side... Lu Jinian straightened and made no move to explain himself.

"Lia, tell me what happened between you two?" Huang Lin coaxed, but Xinli willed herself to calm down and softly replied, "Nothing big happened Madam, there was something in my eye so Second Young Master tried to help me. It's only a small matter..." she tailed off. She was such a bad liar and she heard Lu Jinian chuckled at her predicament. If looks could kill, he would have been six feet below the ground now!

Cheng Yue looked at his son rather thoughtfully, then said in a lively tone, "So, all is well... shall we have dinner tonight at the Hotpot?" He looked at Xinli and added, "You can join us, Lia."

"Thank you Mr. Yue but..." She was about to refuse the invitation but Lanxin chose to interrupt at this moment. "You have to come with us, Miss Lia, my eldest brother Xi yin is leaving tomorrow for Europe to join the team of Architects and landscape developers..."

"Join us, Lia. I know you are good friends with Xi Yin, i'm sure he will be happy to see you." Huang Lin rejoined the conversation. Lu Jinian's sword-like eyebrows raised when he heard his mother's comment. "Father wanted to be there too, but his old bones are making it difficult for him to even step outside his mansion." Huang Lin added to which her husband Cheng Yue nodded in agreement.

"I would like to change, may I go ahead"? Xinli asked politely in a low voice... Yuanrou will be waiting for her at the parking lot, she has to let him know that she will have dinner with the Yues. It wasn't an obligation on her part but she really wanted to be good to him. She wanted to deserve to be his girlfriend when the time comes.

"No, we have work to finish. I will take you back to your home later, then we will go together at the restaurant." Lu Jinian said without emotion, then sat down and continued to tap on his keyboard.

"You go ahead, guys, we'll follow" he said to his family. Huang Lin sighed and looked at Xinli again... "Lia, are you sure...?" She didn't finish her question, Xinli gently smiled and nodded her head in assurance.

"Honey, let's get going now." Cheng Yue put his arms around his wife's shoulders. "Ok, Lanxin son, go ahead and get the car, we will wait at the main entrance." He instructed his youngest son. "Right, Dad!" Lanxin agreed and trotted out.

"Is it alright with you, Lia?" Huang Lin asked her one more time, to which she nodded. "Yes, madam. it's fine with me." Then she smiled and stood up, she walked over to her desk and opened her computer. She evaded Lu Jinian's glances when his parents left.

An evil smile appeared on his firm mouth. You hate me eh? i'll show you what it's like to really hate... you wait and see, Bai Xinli.
