It's always scary to be alone in the dark, and when you turn around and see the empty seat on your side, your heart seems empty too.
The car pulled up in front of her long-lost home and Alice looked out the glass window to see a man standing there, taking off his helmet.
“What's going on?” Alex, lovers for seven years, who was in the front seat, turned and asked.
“A bit nervous.” Alice say.
Alex smiled gently and stroked her head, Alice was a little overwhelmed. A smile was about the most touching thing in the world, it was as if it soothed her inner turmoil. She took a deep breath, kissed him on the cheek and said goodbye before grabbing her suitcase and getting out of the car.
Five years had passed.
“..... Brother!" Alice shouted at the man's back as she watched the car drive away.
The gray golden sunlight enveloped the man, and his body seemed to emanate a soft and hidden light. The man's eyes, which had been somewhat listless, gradually became very gentle.
”Alice!“ He ran over with a big smile and hugged Alice tightly.
Alice smiled and slapped the man's shoulder, ”Kelvin, let me go, I can't breathe...'“
The man replied and hurriedly opened the door. As soon as they were inside the house, her brother suddenly started screaming like a husky.
Alice's mum rushed out of the kitchen and when she saw Alice, her tears fell a little uncontrollably. " Didn't you say you'd be back next week? Why didn't you say anything? ......"
"Actually, my intention was to surprise you."
Dad also stood aside, watching Alice in silence, but his eyes had been wet for a long time.
"Welcome home." Kelvin was beside her, smiling.
Alice hugged them tightly with tears in her eyes, "I miss you all so much."
It is all so wonderful.
Those cozy moments that had been replayed in her dreams countless times in the past.
If the wind had calmed down that day, she would be having a wonderful time now, just as she had imagined, returning from her studies and reuniting with her family.
It was just that.
Alice looked out of the window at the city she had once lived in, and the scenery along the way was both familiar and unfamiliar. Today the sky seems to be exceptionally blue, and the sun is shining high, but for some reason there seems to be something deep inside that is about to burst its banks.
Time has really flown.
Much of the landscape has changed, and so has she.
No longer the beautiful and enchanting red dress, the high and mighty lady who wants what she wants, but a woman with a history of being disliked. Three years had passed, and that pretty face had an additional change that didn't belong to her age, perhaps because she had lost weight and there was almost no extra flesh on her face.
"Alice, where are we going?" Annie asked, anxious.
Annie had spent six years in prison and was only three years older than Alice, but now her face was full of gauntness, and when she smiled there were small lines between her eyebrows that made her look worried.
"I thought we would talk about this? " Alice turned her head and held her hand, saying quietly, "To get you home, don't worry, I'm here with you."
"But ......" Annie looked at Alice confusedly.
"It's ok, let's find a place to fill our stomachs first," Alice said reassuringly.
The taxi stopped in an alley.
They got out and it was a slum area. Everything here was full of signs of time. They walked to the back where all the snack stalls were set up and found a random seat.
"This place has changed so much." Annie said.
Many of the shops and houses had been demolished, even the house Annie lived in.
They sat there for a long time, a dilapidated place like theirs now, with no future or hope in sight.
As the sky grew darker and the air colder, Alice suddenly stood up and reached for Annie's hand.
"We should go now."
"Where are we going?"
"There were all sorts of small advertisements for rentals plastered on the nearby electricity poles." Alice walked over, pulled one down with her hand and said to Annie behind her, "There are lots of rentals here, let's find a place to settle down and have a good rest."
This place might be shabby, but it was Annie's home once, and it will be her home from now on.
During nocturnal hours, a sudden gust of wind traversed a specific area of B City. The lights were red, and the neon lights on both sides of the street imbued the otherwise silent night with brilliance.
A silver grey coulour Rolls-Royce was parked at the entrance.
The reporters, who had been waiting for a considerable time and had already begun to doze off, were immediately roused by the sight of the vehicle, prompting them to consider the possibility that individuals had arrived.
Through the opaque glass window, the woman with long orange hair and a slender figure was observed leaning on the man's body.
'Young master, we've arrived.'
The man exhibited a slight frown as he opened his eyes slowly, his scarlet eyes focusing on the reporters outside the window. He regarded them for a protracted period before allowing them to clamour outside the car.
After a protracted period, the man donned his black suit jacket.
Instantly upon alighting from the vehicle, the reporters swarmed around them, vying to be the first to inquire.
Alex Ray Robinson, aged twenty-six, presided over the group as president, and numerous entrepreneurs in the business world sought to cultivate favour and collaborate with him.Three years prior, the group had been embroiled in a crisis involving stolen secrets, leading to its collapse. Many companies had terminated their contracts and ceased cooperation, and the former president had also fallen ill.
However, within a mere two years, Robinson had managed to revitalise the group.
A female reporter approached the woman and extended the microphone, enquiring, "May I inquire whether you are the daughter of the Walker family? For what purpose do you appear at this auction with the president of the Robinson Group who is currently the subject of considerable controversy?”
The man swept over the woman beside him and held her white hand, stating, "Christa is my fiancée, of course she accompanied me."
As the words were uttered, the atmosphere at the scene instantly reached a climax, the shutter sound of "click, click, click, click" spread out, and the flashbulbs flickered and gathered.
Today's auction was a bit special.
The most valuable item was a mask.
"Eighteen billion dollars! Does anyone else want to bid higher?" The auctioneer's voice pierced the man's ears, and the woman beside him stared into his scarlet eyes. For a moment, she looked up at the stage.
"Two and a half billion." Christa raised the sign in her hand, and with that, the room began to roar again, and she became the center of attention.
"Two and a half billion! This young lady from the Walker family has bid twenty-five! Who else has a higher bid?"
The auctioneer asked four or five times and still couldn't get a higher bid, so he immediately announced, "This auction item 'Wonderland' goes to Miss Walker! Let's congratulate her with a round of applause!" A moment later, the whole room erupted in applause.
Half an hour later.
Inside the bar, people gathered on the dance floor in the middle, dancing to the rhythm of the wild music. The place was like a cannibalistic flower in the darkness, the air filled with that sweet but foul smell that seduced every man and woman.
"Congratulations young master, you finally got what you wanted."
The slender Christa was wearing a revealing and sexy short dress, holding a cocktail in her hand and wiggling her hips as she walked over to a shady corner and sat down. The woman's hair raked purposefully over the man's shoulders, and a glance down could catch a glimpse of the glossy white perfume that carried some of the aroma of alcohol.
"Yeah." The man laughed slightly, his amorous eyes tinged with a slight drunkenness.
It was natural to be happy that the once beloved object was now back in his hands. A scene once experienced filled his mind as if he had experienced it only yesterday, all sensations very clear.
He looked at the mask on the table, but the face of a certain woman came into his mind.
Three years.
"Alex."
The tone of the man on the other side seemed a bit unpleasant. The man leaned back lazily on the sofa, half of his body hidden in the darkness, the light shining faintly on him.
"I heard the woman got out of jail."
He sat up straighter.
"So?" The waiter, standing off to the side, came over and handed him his glass.
The aroma of croctails spread in bursts.
"Don't forget, my sister is still in the hospital." A flash of anger appeared on the man's face, "If it wasn't for that woman, Joie wouldn't have become a half-dead vegetable like she is now!"
"Leo." Alex lifted his eyes and looked at him, "I know, but it's not the right time."
Who didn't know that Alex and Joie were childhood sweethearts, made for each other, and there were more than a few people who envied them for this overwhelming love.
"Then when the f**k do you supposed me to wait!"
Leo backhanded the wine glass he was holding and smashed it heavily on the floor, shattering it instantly into pieces, the commotion so loud that the entire crowd was shocked.
"Damn you Alex, don't tell me you have feelings for that woman?Untill now?" His face clouded over, "Joie...ever since she was a little girl, she's always been toward to you than in me, her brother!"
"Of course not." Alex replied nonchalantly, "I only have your sister in mind."
"You better be." Leo's face remained grim, "If you don't make a move, there's no way I'm going to miss this opportunity."
"I'll do it myself if you don't come."
Leo left the noisy scene after dropping a vicious remark.
"Are you okay?" Next to him, Christa moved a few centimeters closer and rubbed deliberately against him.
"I'm fine." Alex lifted a hand and brushed it over Christa's lips, his fingertips rubbing gently against them, tickling them. Christa tilted her head slightly, fingertips moving to the right cheek, a kiss landing on the lips as he sucked on them repeatedly, his tongue entering her mouth, stirring, letting him plunder it.
Christa lay on top of the man, panting slightly.
Alex looked at the snowy white spot on the woman's chest, his eyes narrowing slightly.
"Want it? "
Looking at the man's toned body, the arms that held her in place were beautifully defined and powerful, especially captivating.
"Neither of us want to waste time, do we?" Chris cupped his face and kissed him deeply.
Of course she couldn't resist.
