*flashback*

Josh ran off somewhere to fight while I was working my way towards the end. Until I heard his howl. His howl of pain. Alpha Alex. I took off to him why are they attacking him? You can smell him and know he is not a rogue. Rushing to his aid I see him the great black wolf attacking and being attacked as he makes his way to a group of wolfs ripping something on the ground up. A white wolf, Kelly. I bolt to her and throw them off her I am too late she is gone. I rush to help Alex who is almost to her and rip the throat of a small grey wolf. And another, when I turn to fight more, they run off. Alex is next to his mate whimpering he curls up to her the best he can I watch him howl and take his last breath. -it saddens me but makes me wonder why they were here killing them. When another thought hit me. ‘where is Rose and Jr?’ worry spreads in my veins. How could I fear of not knowing where she is? Fear! A feeling I have not felt in years. As I run into their home searching every room her scent strongest in the basement. But where is she. “Rose!” with panic in my voice.

*now here I am with her curled in my arms shacking and breathing heavy, her warm tears on my shirt. “Josh!” I call through our mind link I have not talked to him since the battle. “Josh!” “Sorry yes my Alpha are you OK? I haven't seen you, where are you?” “I’m glad to hear your voice my brother! I'm at Alex’s place they were killed can you bring some men here to me?” …. “Josh?” “yes my Alpha I'm on the way now.” it’s strange how he is acting but I brush it off as Rose moves closer into my arms her lavender and honey scent invades my soul I don't know anything about mates or did I care but this female I want to protect why? why do I want her so bad she is a child. “Dex we are outside.” “thank you Josh I'm coming” as I lay her down and wrapped her in covers I stopped myself from laying a kiss on her face and walk out the room the only female rogue I really let stay near Alpha Alex and his family is a older mute woman I called Lee. “Lee watch over them and help them you will move here if that's OK?” she looked as if she was going to cry more, her and Kelly grew real close she nodded I know she would agree and headed to check on Jr. as I walked to face my men and have the alpha and his mate buried under the special tree.

*somewhere Miles away in a pack house*

“Where the hell is MY PRIZE!?” “Alpha when we got there they had rogues living on the land and when we finally made our way to him after killing them we could not find the girl nowhere but before we could keep looking rogues attacked us.” “ROAR!!! A few days later:

*Rose

“why would they kill my parents we are not rogues and you could smell he was an Alpha” I listened to that beta telling Dex the report, not many were killed on his side it's like they were avoiding them. But they found one alive they will question him tonight. Lee has been helping me with Jr. I can tell she misses my mama too. Tonight, after sunset Dex told me that his pack want to have a service for my mom and dad. It warmed my heart that this rogue pack cared for them.

*I sat at the window watching Dex and his men- yes he really helped bury my parents I just snuggled with Jr for hours wishing it wasn’t true they were really gone until I passed out, I knew when Lee come an took him to his bed my anxiety kicked in. But when I smelt the apple and pine I relaxed and slept

“Rose we love you and Jr so much; you must protect each other. Dangerous people are looking for you. Stay hidden, trust no one new. We love you!!” “momma, papa?” “we love you!”  I shot up looking around my room. The sun was starting to set its almost time, so I started getting Jr ready then dug in the back of my closet where I put all my old black dresses after the pack left. Once we were ready, we headed outside when I stepped out rogues in wolf and human lined my path to my parent’s grave for me and Jr bowing their heads with respect. By their graves stood Dex, these people they show so much respect to be rogues, all the stories told make me rethink everything I was ever told. Which brings another set of tears to my eyes? “I’m sorry Rose, your parents asked me to get something for you last week for today.” And he hands me a wrapped box as I open it I cry out, it’s a necklace a locket with a moon engraved over it when I open it there’s a picture of us all smiling, holding each other. “we love you our Rose peddle! Happy Birthday! Love mom & dad!” I cannot hold back the sobs my legs feel weak, Dex wraps his arms around me for support. His warmth soothes me. When he finally breaks his hold to turn to his pack leaving me there next to Lee holding Jr. “my pack, today we celebrate the lives of all the wolves we lost in the attack! Alex and his mate Kelly, Ben, Rider, Derick, Kim, Tina, and Lou. All great members!!! Here’s to you all!” as he lights this huge lantern and releases it when I fallow it up more join his. I did not even know his pack was holding them. Not sure what took over me I grabbed his hand, he flinched but did not pull away instead twined his fingers with mine as we watched the lights fill the sky. ‘I’ll miss you papa and mama’

After everything was over and my pack said their goodbyes they headed back to their homes. The homes they would not have if not for the man laying under the ground now, he could have killed us that night we showed up we were too weak to fight or even in the food took us all out one maybe two bites, but nope. Guilt… him and his mate would still be here if I didn’t ask him to train us or even stepped foot on his door, after I watched them all leave there was still the matter of Rose and Jr now. “Rose may we talk?” her bright eyes look into mine as if reading my soul, she is a alpha we stare at each other until we both look away at the same time “ok Dex fallow me to the kitchen” josh in tow we head inside, as we take our seat Lee brings us hot tea. “thank you lee, could you put Jr to bed for me please?” Rose asks with a sad smile like she knows what we are going to talk about. With only a nod Lee turns and leaves. “Dex, I’m not leaving my family home. I grew up here.” “Rose.” As she catches me by surprise, I shake my head “it’s not safe for you alone” “allow Lee to stay with me?” “Rose!” I feel Josh’s excitement on having her to pass around pisses me off. “Rose your to youn...” “you could protect us; you could stay here too.” Did she just say for me to stay with her? “Dex you’ll be able to still lead your pack from here and open more land I know where all the empty homes are. You can be the Alpha from here and do pack meetings in the pack house that’s how pa, I mean the old Alpha did it.” “Rose you don’t know what you ask of me… I am a man, and my needs get filled at night when I want” she is deep in thought, I’ll allow her to live her same agreement as her father so she is safe was all I’ve been trying to tell her, but her boldness has me on edge. “Dex, then take me as your mate.
