Once again, I had screwed something up. Why should I be surprised?
He shook his head as he slowly got to his feet. “It doesn’t matter. It is done. And now the necromancer has my power.”
“Your power? What do you mean? What just happened?”
“He has stolen my power; the power of a Daijheen.” He sighed. “He has taken my essence, and now I am no more than you or any mortal. I knew he was hunting me. I should have warned you. The folly is my own. And now we are trapped in this lifeless place.”
Daijheen.“What do you mean trapped?”
“We are hundreds of miles from anyplace,” he answered. “Without my power, we cannot survive the journey across the waste. The only food or water we have is
