CHAPTER FIVE: A WOLF IN SHEEP'S CLOTHING. LYRIEN’s POV I sat in a dimly lit room, facing the figure of a man, known as Claw. He was the man who raised me since I was a pup, he was my foster father. "Ayla's father is growing weaker by the day," Claw said. "And with Stone's constant attacks, the pack is on the edge of collapse.” I nodded, my mind racing with thoughts. "I know. But I have a plan to ensure our pack's survival." Claw raised an eyebrow. "Oh? And what might that be?" I smiled a cold smile. "Ayla. She's the key to our pack's future. And I have her right where I want her. Love is the greatest weakness.” Claw's eyes narrowed. "What do you mean?" I leaned in, my voice taking turning conspiratorial. "I've been playing her like a game, Claw. She thinks I'm her lover, her confidant. But in reality, I'm just taking my time, waiting for the perfect moment to strike." Claw's lips curled in a smirk. "And what do you plan to do with her?" I chuckled, a low sound. "Oh, I'll hand her over to you, Claw. As soon as I've my hold on her, I'll deliver her to you, and you can do with her as you please. You deserve a present after all don’t you?” Claw let out a satisfied laugh. "Excellent. I've been waiting a long time to get my claws on that little entitled she-wolf.” I nodded. "And I have you to thank for that, Claw. Your little act as Stone was perfect for our plan. Ayla is completely convinced that I'm her only hope. Her knight in shining armor.” Claw's cold laughter sent shivers down my spine. "Ah, yes. This is delicious. She thinks she's using you to defeat Stone, but in reality, you're using her to further our evil agenda.” I smiled an evil smile. "Exactly. And soon, we'll have the pack right where we want it. Under our control." Claw gave me a small smile, a smile of approval. "Excellent, Lyrien. I knew I could count on you. You'll make sure Ayla is in the right place at the right time, and I'll take care of the rest." I nodded, my smile growing wider. "Of course, Claw. I've been playing her from the start. She thinks I'm her lover, but in reality, I'm just leading her further into your well-set trap." "Together, we'll crush Ayla, her father, and anyone else who dares to stand in our way. The pack will be ours, and no one will ever be able to stop us." “I just need some more time and she will be ours.” I gloated. Claw's eyes shone with excitement as he began to pace the length of the chamber. "And once we have Ayla, we'll use her to lure in the rest of the pack. They'll come crawling to us, thinking they can save her, but it will be too late. We'll crush them all, and I'll finally be the Alpha I was always meant to be. I will take the throne from my big brother, Casimir.” I nodded, my mind racing with thoughts of our plan. I had never intended to go this far, but now that I was in, I had to see it through. "And what about Stone?" I asked, trying to sound casual. "He's still out there, and he won't give up easily." Claw's smile grew wider. "Oh, Stone. He's a fool. He thinks he can take me down, but I have a surprise waiting for him. One that will ensure he never bothers us again." I raised an eyebrow. “What kind of surprise?" Claw's laughter sent shivers down my spine. "You'll see, Lyrien. You'll see soon enough. But for now, let's focus on Ayla. We have a trap to set, and I want to make sure everything is perfect." “And if things do not go as planned? For all I know, Thorne has his eyes on Ayla. And he is the most powerful Lycan king. If we are to rely on strength, skills, and wit he will win. And if he wins, then he has every right to take Ayla as his.” I voiced out my fears. “Do not worry about Thorne, his love for her will be his downfall.” Claw assured. “I. I don’t understand. What are you planning?” I asked, just to be sure. “You see, Ayla loves you and Thorne loves her. But Ayla’s father does not know she is in love with you. And if he finds out she is in love with you, and even meeting with you in secret, it will only spell out doom for the two of you. Now imagine if we push Thorne to tell her father this…and Casimir openly rejects that you have anything to do with his daughter…” claw said and gave me a knowing look. “Then, Ayla will hate Thorne so much and I will pretend to be hurt and self-righteous, then she will come to me. Even going as far as eloping with me.” I completed, my heart racing with each word. “Perfect. So now you see, we just have to keep nurturing the jealousy inside of Thorne. We must keep pushing him to the point where he can no longer take it.” Claw added. My mind raced as I tried to understand his plan. Something in me told me to be Careful. But Claw’s offer was too juicy for me to ignore. But then, my mind slowly drifted to thoughts of Thorne. He was a formidable opponent and had a very firm grip on his emotions. What if he does not take the bait? What if he is not actually in love with Ayla? What if he is just like me? Is he chasing Ayla with his ulterior motives? “Something on your mind son?” Claw asked. I snapped out of my reverie and smiled sheepishly at him. “N-No.” I stuttered. “Alright then, I will take my leave. Make sure you are safe and keep me informed.” Claw said and turned on his heels. “One more thing.”
