Chapter 15: Revenge and Betrayal

626 Words
Remi woke up with a singular focus: destroying Avery. She had spent the entire night plotting and scheming, and now it was time to put her plan into action. She arrived at school, her eyes scanning the cafeteria for any sign of Avery. And then, just as the bell rang, signaling the start of lunch, Remi spotted her. Avery and Remi passed each other, their eyes locking in a fierce glare. But neither of them said a word. The tension between them was palpable, and everyone in the cafeteria could feel it. Just as it seemed like the silence was going to stretch on forever, a buzz filled the air as phones began to vibrate and ring. The Insider had sent out a new message. "Spotted: Avery Laurent's dirty little secret. Looks like our beloved Avery has been hiding a family secret. Her father, a notorious addict, has been in rehab for years. And Avery's been visiting him, keeping in touch with her dear old dad." The cafeteria erupted into chaos as everyone turned to stare at Avery. Her face was a picture of shock and horror, and Remi could see the hurt and betrayal written all over her features. Avery's eyes locked onto Remi's, and for a moment, they just stared at each other. Remi could see the anger and accusation in Avery's eyes, but she just smiled, a cold, calculating smile. Avery stood up, her voice shaking with rage. "You did this, Remi. You sent this to The Insider." Remi stood up, her eyes flashing with triumph. "You did it first, Avery. You leaked my s*x tape." Avery's face twisted in pain. "I didn't do that, Remi. I swear." Remi laughed, a cold, mirthless sound. "Don't lie to me, Avery. I know it was you." Just as it seemed like the argument was going to escalate further, Julian appeared out of nowhere, his eyes flashing with anger. "Hey, back off, Remi," he growled, stepping between Remi and Avery. Avery's eyes locked onto Julian's, and for a moment, Remi could see the gratitude written all over her face. "Let's get out of here," Julian said, putting a protective arm around Avery's shoulders. Avery nodded, and together, they walked out of the cafeteria, leaving Remi standing alone. Remi watched them go, a satisfied smile spreading across her face. She had won, and Avery had lost. But as she walked out of the cafeteria, Remi was confronted by Asher. "Hey, Remi, what's going on?" he asked, his eyes filled with concern. Remi's smile faltered, and for a moment, she felt a pang of guilt. "It's Avery," Remi said, her voice shaking with emotion. "She leaked my s*x tape to The Insider." Asher's eyes widened in shock. "Are you sure it was her?" Remi nodded, her eyes filling with tears. "I'm positive. She's been acting so weird lately, and I know she's been jealous of me." Asher's expression turned skeptical. "Remi, that doesn't sound like Avery. Are you sure you're not just misunderstanding her?" Remi's face twisted in anger. "No, Asher, I'm not misunderstanding her. I know what I saw." Asher sighed, his eyes filled with concern. "Remi, I don't know what to say. I'm so sorry this happened to you." Remi's tears spilled over, and she buried her face in Asher's chest. As Asher held her, he couldn't shake the feeling that Remi was hiding something from him. He didn't know what it was, but he was determined to find out. And as he looked down at Remi, he felt a pang of guilt and embarrassment. He had been so blind, so oblivious to the drama unfolding around him. But now, he was starting to see the truth. And he wasn't sure he liked what he saw.
