Avery woke up to the sound of her alarm blaring in her ear. She groggily reached over to turn it off, rubbing the sleep from her eyes. As she sat up in bed, she couldn't help but think about the fight she had with Remi.
"Day three," Avery muttered to herself, trying to sound nonchalant. "But who's counting? Not like I care."
Remi, on the other hand, woke up feeling guilty and anxious. She had been having trouble sleeping, haunted by the memory of what she had done to Avery. She had found out that it wasn't Avery who had sent the video to The Insider, and the weight of her mistake was crushing her.
As she lay in bed, Remi's mind wandered back to her bowling date with Asher. They had been having so much fun, laughing and joking together like they had known each other for years.
"I'm really bad at this," Remi said, giggling as she watched her ball roll into the gutter.
Asher grinned, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "You're not that bad. You just need a little practice."
Remi playfully rolled her eyes. "Yeah, right. I think I need a lot more than practice."
Asher chuckled, his arm brushing against hers as he reached for his ball. "I think you're selling yourself short."
Remi felt a flutter in her chest as she met Asher's gaze. She couldn't believe how much fun she was having with him.
As they took a break and grabbed some snacks, Asher's phone buzzed with an incoming message. Remi happened to glance at the screen and saw the message from The Insider: "Thanks for the tip on Remi."
Remi's eyes widened in shock as she realized that Asher must have sent the tip. She felt stupid and betrayed, wondering why Asher would do such a thing.
But she didn't confront him. Instead, she told him she was feeling sick and needed to go home and rest.
Asher looked concerned, but he didn't push the issue. "Okay, I'll take you home."
Remi nodded, feeling a mix of emotions: anger, hurt, and confusion.
The next morning, Remi woke up feeling determined. She was going to apologize to Avery and make things right.
Remi got dressed and headed to the bakery, where she ordered a cake with "I'm Sorry" written on it. She then headed to school, cake in hand, and waited at Avery's locker.
When Avery arrived, she looked surprised to see Remi waiting for her.
"What do you want, Remi?" Avery asked, her voice cold.
Remi took a deep breath and held out the cake. "I'm sorry, Avery. I was wrong to accuse you of sending that video to The Insider."
Avery raised an eyebrow. "You think a cake is going to make everything okay?"
Remi shook her head. "No, I don't. But I want you to know that I'm truly sorry. I was blind and stupid, and I hurt you."
Avery's expression softened slightly, but her voice was still icy. "Who told you it wasn't me?"
Remi hesitated, unsure of how much to reveal. "I found out...through someone else."
Avery's eyes narrowed. "Who?"
Remi took a deep breath. "Asher asked me out on a date, and I saw a message on his phone. It was from The Insider, thanking him for the tip on me."
Avery's eyes widened in shock, and then her face twisted in anger. "That bastard. I always knew he was a slimeball."
Remi nodded, feeling a sense of relief that Avery believed her. "I'm so sorry, Avery. I feel like such an idiot."
Avery's expression softened, and she put a hand on Remi's arm. "It's okay, Remi. We'll get back at him together."
Remi smiled, feeling a sense of gratitude towards Avery. "Thanks, Avery. I really appreciate it."
Avery grinned, a mischievous glint in her eye. "Don't worry, Remi. We'll make Asher pay for what he did."
