The sun was shining brightly as Avery and Remi walked side by side through the school hallways. They radiated power and confidence, making heads turn as they passed by.
Asher, who was standing by his locker, caught sight of Remi and couldn't help but smile. He waved at her, trying to greet her, but Remi completely ignored him.
Asher's smile faltered, and he looked confused. Why was Remi ignoring him? He thought they had a connection, especially after their bowling date.
Determined to find out what was wrong, Asher decided to meet Remi after school. He caught up with her and Avery in the hallway.
"Hey, Remi, can I talk to you alone for a minute?" Asher asked, trying to sound casual.
Avery, who was standing beside Remi, raised an eyebrow. "Oh, I don't think so," she said, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "I'm not going anywhere. Whatever you have to say, you can say it in front of me."
Remi nodded in agreement. "Yeah, anything you want to say, Asher, you can say it right here."
Asher hesitated, looking nervous. He glanced around the hallway, noticing the curious stares of their classmates. He didn't want to have this conversation in public, but he didn't have a choice.
"Uh, Remi, are you feeling better today?" Asher asked, trying to sound concerned. "You said you were sick last night."
Avery rolled her eyes. "Oh, please. You're not even trying to hide it, Asher."
Remi smiled sweetly. "Yes, I'm feeling much better, thanks for asking."
Asher's eyes darted back and forth between Remi and Avery. He could tell they were both angry with him, but he didn't know why.
"Look, Remi, I think we need to talk about what's going on," Asher said, trying to sound sincere. "I feel like there's been a misunderstanding."
Remi raised an eyebrow. "A misunderstanding? Really, Asher? That's the best you've got?"
Asher shifted uncomfortably. He knew he was in trouble, and he didn't know how to get out of it.
"Remi, please, just listen to me," Asher said, trying to sound desperate.
But Remi just shook her head. "I don't want to hear it, Asher. You've had your chance to explain yourself, and you blew it."
With that, Remi and Avery turned and walked away, leaving Asher standing alone in the hallway. He looked guilty and selfish, unsure of what to do next.
As they walked away, Avery turned to Remi and whispered, "You handled that perfectly. I'm so proud of you."
Remi smiled, feeling empowered. "Thanks, Avery. I couldn't have done it without you."
The two friends continued walking, ready to take on whatever challenges lay ahead.
Meanwhile, Asher stood in the hallway, feeling like he'd been punched in the gut. He knew he'd messed up, and he didn't know how to fix it.
As he watched Remi and Avery walk away, Asher felt a pang of regret. He'd been so focused on protecting his own secrets that he'd hurt someone he cared about.
But Asher's regret was quickly replaced by anger. He was angry at Remi for not giving him a chance to explain himself. He was angry at Avery for interfering. And he was angry at himself for getting caught.
As Asher stood in the hallway, seething with anger and regret, it was clear that he was not going to give up easily. He was going to do whatever it took to come out on top, even if it meant hurting someone else.
