Chapter 10: Secrets and Lies

Spotted: Asher Wallace, Ravenswood Academy's star athlete, sneaking out of the Grand Hotel last night. What was he doing there? And with whom?

The Insider's message spread like wildfire, igniting a flurry of speculation and gossip among the students of Ravenswood Academy.

Meanwhile, Asher was dealing with the fallout. Caleb, his teammate and supposed friend, confronted him in the locker room.

"Hey, Asher, what's going on?" Caleb asked, his tone laced with curiosity. "I saw The Insider's post. What were you doing at the Grand Hotel?"

Asher's eyes narrowed, his jaw clenched in anger. He didn't trust Caleb enough to tell him the truth. Besides, Caleb was the one who had tipped off The Insider in the first place.

"I was just...uh...meeting a college scout," Asher lied, trying to sound convincing. "Yeah, that's it. A scout from UCLA."

Caleb raised an eyebrow, clearly skeptical. "At the Grand Hotel? At night?"

Asher shrugged, trying to play it cool. "Hey, the scout wanted to meet in private. I didn't ask questions."

Caleb seemed to buy the explanation, but Asher knew he couldn't trust him. Not now, not ever.

Across campus, Remi and Avery were discussing The Insider's latest scoop over lunch.

"Oh my god, can you believe it?" Remi asked, her eyes wide with excitement. "Asher Wallace, cheating on his girlfriend? Scandalous!"

Avery rolled her eyes, a sly smile spreading across her face. "I don't know, Remi. Maybe Asher's just really into...hotel decor?"

Remi giggled, her eyes sparkling with amusement. "Maybe he was meeting a secret lover? Someone who's not his girlfriend?"

Avery raised an eyebrow, her tone dripping with sarcasm. "Oh, sure, because nothing says 'secret lover' like a rendezvous at the Grand Hotel. How cliché."

Remi playfully hit Avery's arm, laughing. "You're so mean! But seriously, what do you think Asher was doing there?"

Avery shrugged, her expression nonchalant. "I have no idea, but I'm sure it's none of our business."

Just then, Ethan walked up to their table, a charming smile on his face. "Hey, Remi! Hey, Avery! What's up?"

Remi smiled sweetly, her eyes sparkling with friendliness. "Hey, Ethan! Not much. Just discussing Asher's latest scandal."

Ethan chuckled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "Ah, yeah. I saw that. Crazy, right?"

Avery snorted, her tone sarcastic. "Yeah, because nothing says 'crazy' like a guy sneaking out of a hotel at night."

Ethan laughed, his eyes locking onto Avery's. "Hey, don't be too hard on Asher. Maybe he was just...lost?"

Avery raised an eyebrow, her expression skeptical. "Lost? In a hotel? At night? Sure, Ethan. Keep dreaming."

Remi playfully hit Avery's arm again, laughing. "Avery, stop teasing Ethan! He's just trying to defend Asher."

Ethan grinned, his eyes sparkling with amusement. "Hey, someone's got to stick up for the guy. Anyway, I'll catch you guys later. Nice running into you!"

As Ethan walked away, Remi turned to Avery with a sly grin. "You know, Avery, I think Ethan is totally into me."

Avery snorted, her tone sarcastic. "Oh, yeah. I hadn't noticed. He's only been obsessing over you for, like, forever."

Remi giggled, her eyes sparkling with amusement. "Shut up, Avery! He's just really friendly, that's all."

Avery raised an eyebrow, her expression skeptical. "Friendly? Ethan? You're delusional, Remi. He's got it bad for you."

Remi playfully hit Avery's arm again, laughing. "You're just jealous because Ethan doesn't obsess over you."

Avery smiled sweetly, her tone dripping with sarcasm. "Oh, yeah. I'm totally jealous of your stalk...I mean, your admirer."

Remi giggled, and the two friends continued to joke and laugh together, enjoying their lunch and each other's company.
