A moment later, Cutler's assistant called.
"Mr. Jenkins, I've checked everything. Everything Ms. Lawrence wrote in that diary is true. I also found out the real cause of her death. It wasn't a medical accident. Maura drugged her. The stuff she used destroyed Ms. Lawrence's blood-clotting ability. That's why she bled out nonstop during the surgery and died in agony."
The words hit Cutler like a lightning bolt. He stood frozen in place.
All this time—what the hell had he been doing? Maura had set Audrey up again and again, and he had helped her every single time.
He felt like the lowest piece of s**t on earth.
Cutler's face turned ugly. His grip on the diary tightened until his knuckles went white.
The next second, he shouted toward the door, "Somebody get Maura in here right now!"
