Maura panicked instantly. She lunged forward, desperate to beg for mercy, but Jeffrey stepped in and blocked her path.
"Cutler, you can't do this to me! Yeah, I messed up, but I've been by your side all these years. You can't just throw me in prison!"
Cutler paused mid-step. He turned and looked at her like she was some pathetic clown. "Didn't I give you everything?"
It was true that Maura had stayed by his side. But when he met Maura, his worst days were already behind him. He had never made her suffer. And after he rose again, he had given her the best of everything. From any angle, he had never shortchanged her.
