We all retired to our rooms. I was more than tired. At least I needed some time to process this whole thing. I took a quick nap, my brain needed to cool.
My phone constantly chimed with endless messages. It was even what drove away my sleep.
The moment I touched the phone, my heart skipped a beat. I couldn't understand what was going on.
The internet was bubbling with my name. I was in the headlines. I made the news. Accusations of financial fraud, littered all over the internet. Come on, off the books payments in my name, even some blogs whispering about me embezzling funds right from my college days.
Fuck!
Dominic, where are you?
Just a few hours after the reading of the will and this? What have I done? What have I gotten myself into?
“Come on.. this is fake. It's all fake. I never…”
That's my opinion. The internet doesn't wait for proof. It's a gossip circle that feeds on people's image.
Dominic stormed in angrily and threw his tablet down at me.
So he believes this too. God!! No!
“I never did any of this…”
“I know, but you brought this upon yourself.” He snapped.
His eyes burned with fury, worse than what I saw last night.
“What is your problem?”
“What do you mean?” I cried.
“Who have you pissed off already? Who!? Jeez!”
“You think I did this to myself?” I queried.
“No,” he groaned. “But you need to learn. You f*****g need to learn. In here, things are different and till you understand that, maybe you'll even have a little chance of saving your head.” He scolded and dashed out angrily.
I hate him. I hate needing him. He's just like Arthur, a control freak. I know he must hate himself for always wanting to protect me, I saw it last night and I've seen it again.
This won't work. f**k this s**t.
I ran after him.
“Dominic! Wait!”
“What is it?”
“Please, I'm sorry. What can be done about it? What can I do to help it?” I pleaded.
“Keep your head down and don't leave this building. I'll go clean up your mess. And let me earn you, don't go looking for trouble. It won't end well. Don't crave for answers, they'll only make things worse.” He yelled right into my pale face. “Do you understand?”
“Yes.” I nodded, my voice weak and broken and I headed back to my room.
Today was more than hectic, I just sobbed endlessly as I ran my eyes through posts on social media. f**k!
I can't keep watching this. I need a break.
I laid my head and curled up on the pillow. My wet eyes spilling more on it.
But suddenly, I heard a creak on my door. I hurriedly got up and checked but found no one.
Just a letter, lying blank on the ground.
I picked it up and cross checked if anyone was lurking around, but I found none, even though I knew whoever dropped this letter was still around the corner. I did not want to disobey Dominic's orders.
“He lied to you. He always did.”
The f**k.
My blood ran cold as I read through the letter, the ink painted with blood.
Who?
Arthur? Dominic? Someone else?
My hands trembled. Now I realize, this inheritance is just a cover for a deadly game. Sooner or later, it's going to erupt.
Liana's POV
What happened today still feels like a dream. He kissed me like he wanted to break me, I loved it too. Who knows, maybe he did.
The damn note still haunted me. I really don't understand who and why the person would drop this note.
Dominic, what is wrong with you?
You must be behind this, I know.
What I don't understand is what you're insinuating by this.
I need to confront him. This s**t has to end.
I left my room immediately and headed straight to his office. I didn't even knock. He pisses me off.
“Did you leave the note?” I queried.
He doesn't look up immediately.
“Answer me?”
He turned to me once again, a cold smile formed across the corners of his lips. His eyes are dazzling and completely unreadable. I wonder if he's angry or something, I just know he's the one or he's behind it.
He slowly rose to his feet and leaned closer to me, his eyes burning hot, something I couldn't understand.
“Now you listen.” He warned. “If I wanted to say anything to you, I'd say it right to your face.” He smiled. “Do you understand?”
“I don't.” I snarled. “You lie.” I scorned. “I don't believe you.”
“You can believe what ever you want to, just know I wouldn't hide my thoughts in a f*****g note.” He snapped.
“f**k you Dom. You lie about everything. This note, this f*****g deal, my dad, the company, you just don't tell the truth, not to me, not to anyone.” I roared.
“I'm just doing my best to protect you girl.” He warned. This place, everything, it's never as it seems and till you understand that, the higher the chances of your survival.”
“f**k you. I hate you. Come to think of it, of all Arthur's kids, he chose me, the one he abandoned, the one he threw away like some piece of trash, you never told me why?”
“Some things as I said aren't as they seem.” He remembered, his voice cold, but calm.
I was breathing heavily, my heart pounding already inside my chest, I wanted to explode, the one thing I've been suspecting, I can't hold it anymore.
“You killed him.” I said, my eyes burning with hatred.
“What did you say?”
“You heard me.”
