Chapter 4

He arrived in a vintage car, his sunglasses intact and his unyielding ego, almost the size of this estate. He headed inside immediately. Oh my! Liana! I need to get there now. I dashed back into the house through my secret passage, he had already found her and started lashing out. He's such a jerk. “And here she is?” He scorned, his voice echoing loudly in the hallway. “Our little baby is back home. Did daddy finally remember you in his will? Or was this just pity from the grave?” He mocked. I wanted to intervene Immediately, but she was a pain in the ass too. She wacked back at him too. “You're just mad.” She laughed. “He left it all to me.” Damn. She's got some lines baby. I knew that would definitely wound his ego so I revealed myself from the shadows. Eddie can be really cruel. “You?” He spat. “He barely knew you existed. It's kinda funny.” He smirked and walked with fury towards her. I saw fear burning in her as she stepped back. “It's funny. Can you hear yourself?” “That's enough!” I scolded. The f**k has gotten over him. “Eddie, get the f**k out of here and go back to your s**t hole.” I warned. The power shift in my voice was noticed. The commanding presence, they all felt it. I know how to handle that bastard, he needs lethal force and I'll serve him just what he deserves. The shock written on their faces was confusing to us all. I just realized I stood up for her. What? I never expected that, and neither did she. But there it was, instinct. “Sorry man. I just wanted to show the girl how things are done around here.” “And I said it's enough.” I snapped, he jerked sharply at the sound of my thunderous voice. Why can't he just be sensible, at least for once. “Both of you, back to your rooms. Now!” I commanded. They all obeyed in shame, but the look on her face was somewhat unreadable, I don't know what she was feeling inside. I wish I could read her mind. In the middle of the madness, my phone chimed. It was an encrypted message, probably from one of my spies. “She's being watched.” Fuck! Damn it! The f*****g surveillance wasn't from me, it was from someone else. Someone else had eyes on her. Why now? This would just get a lot worse. Liana's POV The will I always knew. Accepting anything from Arthur was walking into a pit. This whole inheritance stuff, it wasn't about what it was covered with, it was bait, f*****g bait. After last night's drama, Dominic called me early this morning to join with the rest of the family for the reading. His lawyer was here. The moment the lawyer read the will aloud, I understood. This wasn't some sort of generosity. It was a f*****g trap set by a control freak from the grave. I thought I'd won. I never knew the game was just beginning. The conference room in the Blackwell tower was filled with tension. Hearts pounding heavily, waiting to hear the verdict of the will. I sat alone on the table, isolated from them all. Dominic stood behind me, like my fairy godfather, his face stoned. He already knew the verdict, this was only formalities. Eddie on the other hand stood by the corner, his hands wrapped around himself, a silly smirk on his face. Isabella, the corn artist wore her grief like an LV designer jacket, elegant, but dead. Empty. She stood just by the door. The lawyer continued to read on until he got to the main issue, the bombshell began. “Liana Blackwell is hereby granted 51% of the Blackwell estate shares.” He paused for a second, the tension sprinted upward rapidly. The silence, the gasps, the surprise, they were all just humor to both of us, Dominic and I. I winked at Eddie's furious eyes. He bolts upright, “bullshit!” He slammed. Isabella held fast to the wineglass and gulped in everything. “21% goes to Dominic and Eddie goes with 10%.” He concluded. The finality in his tone was strong, haunting and boiling hot in the minds of us all. Eddie was lucky. He got something, but Isabella? Nothing. Not even a personal letter. It just seemed like she never existed in the will. Her name was only mentioned in the list of children and after that, it was found no more. I felt it. The pain, it all reminded me how he made me feel. Worthless, stupid. But why now? I feel the weight of control, the evident danger lurking around the corner and for the first time in my shitty life in this house, I felt threatened. I felt unsafe. I don't f*****g want the damn company, but now I own it. And people, most of which I don't know, hate me for it. I never asked for any of this. All I wanted was just enough money to treat mom, nothing more. She finally slammed her wineglass on the table. The sound of her clap echoed in the room. “Of course, darling. We're family.” She smiled. “Right?” She asked, looking at all of them. They just muttered inaudible things. “Arthur must have had a reason.” She smiled. “Come here darling.” She hugged me tightly. She wanted me to feel the heat inside her. She clutched onto me, never wanting to let me go. I felt the burning fury radiating from beneath her. My heart was fried by her touch. She finally let me go and pat my back softly with a smirk. Her eyes spoke differently. The story was different: you'll pay for this! I smiled back at her, maintaining my ground. Yes, I know I may not know the law quite well, but I know how to read a thread wrapped in sheep clothing. Dominic on the other hand stood unfazed. He did not intervene, not yet. He just watched closely, his eyes never leaving my face.
