Vera flung the car door open, and when she had settled on the seat, she sighed. The chauffeur stared at her image in the driver's mirror, her forehead resting on her palm and her phone clutched in the other hand. The guard in shade sat beside the chauffeur. He also peeked in the driver's mirror. Vera's eyes were shut, and she took long breaths, trying hard to calm her nerves. “What about the package, Ma’am?” Owen asked as he was about to start the car. “What package? She asked, still gloomy. Suddenly she remembered what the driver was talking about. “Wait,” Her eyes came alive with a name escaping her mouth, "Alex..." she whispered as she stared out the window. She scrolled through her phone and dialed a number with the name she had pronounced. "Head towards Alex Stefan's house. I need to drop the package there," Vera spoke in a tone so slow and low. The chauffeur brought the engines to life with a twist of his key, he stepped on the accelerator pedal and steered the car back into the center of the road, speeding off. The red car came to a halt in front of a well-fenced house. The house was an outstanding one-story building, well painted with a majestic blue color and its silver roof reflected the hue of the sunset. Vera stepped out, and the guard at the front did the same. She adjusted her skirt, and he adjusted his black jacket and the cuffs of his shirt. Vera pushed the gate and walked into the premises with the guard strolling in behind her. Her purse dangled from her right forefinger and middle finger. On reaching the door, she took out a key from her purse. "You wait here," she said as she inserted the key into the keyhole. Two twists and the door clicked, adjusting backward with a soft creak. She walked straight to the center table and dropped the package. On her way out she heard a creaking sound. Vera looked around the room. “Is someone in? Alex," she called out with a gentle voice, but didn't get any response. She was about to leave when she heard the sound again. "Alex," she said a second time, but the same silence came back. She tilted her head to her right, glanced at the stairs, and followed its trail to the floor above. She rushed for the stairs, ascending with gentle yet very quick steps, her shoes clacking upon the tiles as she did. Upon getting to the first room on that floor which the stairs had led to, Vera paused. The room was slightly ajar, and she could hear soft moans and pants. Her mouth hung open for a second as she peeped through the space that had been left open. The scene she saw — two bare figures, one on top of the other, having a feel of each other amidst smooches — made her flinch a bit. Vera flung the door wide open, "Alex?" she gasped with much disappointment in her voice. "Alex? What the hell is going on here?" Vera said. Her eyes were fixed on the man who had just stopped thrusting at a fair young woman. Their moans of pleasure had ceased at the sound of her voice, and they had separated themselves from their mating position — the man grabbed a black boxer and rolled over from his kneeling position to sit on the edge of the bed, whilst the woman had hid her curled nude body under a blanket. Alex slid his black boxer on and rushed to Vera. "Vera_w-what... I never knew you were going to visit," he said. "Alex, I called you. You ignored my calls," Vera said to him. "No no. I-I... Vera, I'm really sorry, I didn't hear the phone ring," Alex replied. "You didn't hear your phone ring, or you refused to hear the phone ring? Was it all because you were with her? Alex, have you forgotten who I am?" "I..." Alex paused, he furrowed his brows and his facial expression contorted to reveal how puzzled he was at the question. "And who the actual hell do you think you are?" the lady cut in as she bounced off the bed. She had wrapped up her body with a white towel, yet her long thighs were still exposed. "What! Victoria?” She turned to Alex, “Victoria? How dare you?" Vera said, hitting Alex continuously. Alex held her hand strongly, stopping her from hitting him further. "I'm sick and tired of you claiming supremacy over every person just because they are close to you Vera. Everything always has to be about you! He chose me over being a simpleton for you. You have a problem with that?" Victoria lashed out at Vera. "Wow, I'm stricken with fear now, Victoria," Vera said with a laugh at the end. "Anyway", she turned to Alex, "You do know better than anyone who I am, Alex. I'm disappointed in you." "I'm sorry, Vera, but Vicky and I have been dating for a couple of months now. I'm sorry I didn't let you know." "Why are you even apologizing? Don't you see she's using you? She is manipulating you like some child! You deserve better Alex." "And you are better? Self-righteous people disgust me." Vera snapped. "You're just like every other rich b***h out there. You use people and dump them like they are nothing at all because you have the money. You never liked Alex, I don't even know how you got into his life... how did you even get. here?" "Vicky..." Alex tried to hold Victoria back as she advanced towards Vera. "Don't. She has to know her pla..." Her statement was cut short by a loud slap that came from Vera. She placed her palms on the cheek that was slapped, lifting her head, Vera stood before her like a fierce goddess who had been angered. "The only person that should know her place is you. You are the slut who is sleeping with my man" Victoria returned the slap as a response to Vera calling her a slut. “Don’t you dare call me a slut for dating Alex.” She laughed mischievously. “Technically, he isn't even your man.” Vera was furious — her face boiled red with both hurt and fury, like a fiery furnace. "Alex," she exhaled and turned to him, "You will not do anything about that, will you?”
