No one was able or even properly equipped to touch her the way that Romel could and had. Their connection was unfathomable for others, especially their significant others. It was the most exposed yet secret love that was never meant to be told. Waking up to one another and falling asleep to the rhythmic breaths and heartbeats. It is such a melodic tale of modern-day star-crossed lovers who never took the chance to take the next step. Yet he knew that her heart was his, and his heart was confused, and he knew that she deserved more than just a drop of his love, but rather, all of his love. But again, when there are significant or insignificant others beside each of them, they must love the one they're with. At least, that's what they were taught. And leaving without notice was something they both endured before and promised to not reenact such an act to anyone because they saw the heartaches as a result.
Leela, was a determined young woman, good head on her shoulders, constantly battling and slaying her own demons, even with the help of Romel, she learned so much about herself through his eyes, yet learned even more when they would part ways. It was not hard to know who she was in a crowd. The one fumbling with her glasses and tucking her hair behind her ear, rubbing her lips together, displaying her dimples. Yeah, the nerdy girl, the girl next door, the homie, the sister, the one who gets told 'it's me, not you,' yeah, that's her. Leela wasn't a petite young woman, in fact she had curves, she had meat on her bones, though she tried to hide her womanly, cute and chunky, shape with oversized clothes or long cardigans that are referred to as dusters, she wasn't aware that men actually loved her figure and some women even wished they had an ounce of what she had. She had a lot of love in her soul and even more to give to the one whom she was intended to fall in love with. Or perhaps had already fallen in love with.
Romel was like a walking Armani ad for men in the business world. A classic, tall, dark, and handsome, more robust than a Starbucks cup of coffee, kind of man. He, too, was a nerd, but his nerdy ways made women weak in their knees. How could one make psychiatry look so cool?! How could someone basically say, "You're mentally unstable and need medicinal therapy? "...translation, you're crazy and need meds. Way too professional for that, though. He easily stood out amongst the crowd with height and dashing good looks. His charismatic personality attracted many, even new clients. Though his girlfriend was younger than he was, he treated her as his equal and taught her how to love and communicate with a man like him, in a way that would resonate with his heart and not with his inner demons. Oh yeah, even Mr. Perfect had his own battles to, eventually, become victorious over. And some he was able to overcome with the help of Leela, though he probably would never admit to that.
This isn't a love story, though. So brace yourself, because their story...it's a journey of friendship, betrayal, pain that only someone that one truly loves can inflict, and self realization.
