He knew their Code well. Once a promise was made, she could not break it. Brokenly, she acquiesced. He put aside the weapon, knelt before her. He stared at her strange, almost human, features. Her eyes were large, an impossible violet, with wide pupils. There was a luminous quality to her skin. Her mouth was full, and the lips looked soft and inviting. When he kissed her, Marishinalle tried to hold back the shudder. He smelled of sweat and smoke, human odors that offended her dainty senses. It made her gag.
