CHAPTER 10 — “The Woman They Created”

439 Words
The night air hit her skin the moment she stepped outside— cool, sharp, real. But she didn’t shiver. Not anymore. Behind her, the door slowly closed, separating her from everything she used to be. From the girl who stayed too long. From the girl who loved too hard. From the girl who kept hoping. Her steps were steady. Not rushed. Not hesitant. Just… certain. For the first time, she wasn’t walking away in pain. She was walking away in power. Her phone buzzed in her hand. Once. Twice. Again. She didn’t check it immediately. She already knew. Still— after a few seconds, she lifted the screen. Messages flooded in. Calls. Apologies. Excuses. “Please, let’s talk.” “I didn’t mean it like that.” “You’re overreacting.” “I miss you already.” A small, tired smile crossed her lips. Not soft. Not sweet. Just… knowing. “Now you miss me,” she whispered to herself. Her thumb hovered over the screen. For a moment— just a moment— the old version of her tried to breathe again. Tried to whisper: Answer them. Go back. Fix it. But she exhaled slowly… and locked her phone. “No,” she said quietly. “Not this time.” She kept walking. Streetlights stretched ahead of her, casting long shadows behind her— like ghosts of everything she had outgrown. They thought she was breaking. That tonight would destroy her. That she would cry, beg, collapse. But they didn’t understand something. They didn’t see it coming. They didn’t realize… they were the ones who built this version of her. Every lie. Every tear. Every moment she was made to feel small— they stacked it, piece by piece, until it turned into something else. Something stronger. Something colder. Something untouchable. She stopped walking for a second, looking up at the dark sky. “I survived you,” she murmured. “And that means…” A slow breath. “I can survive anything.” And for the first time— she believed it. Her phone buzzed again. She didn’t even look this time. Instead, she did something simple… but powerful. She blocked them. Every number. Every connection. Every door they thought they could walk back through. Closed. For good. A soft wind brushed past her, lifting her hair slightly— like the world itself was acknowledging the shift. She wasn’t the girl they once knew. She wasn’t the girl they could return to. She was the lesson. And now— she was gone. But somewhere deep inside her… something new was beginning. Not love. Not yet. Something better.
