Yet, all in all, Selina was more bothered about her coming marriage to Sebastian than anything else. Just the other day, he and his parents had come to visit them. Marcus had begged Selina to act as docile as possible to please them. And even though she did not like the whole idea, she had to do it. To keep her family's secret, secret.
Selina's family members, just her brother, and her father, sat in the parlor, awaiting her arrival. The Rafael Family, one of the most influential families in that city, had arrived.
Selina made her way into the sitting room, walking slowly.
Her father looked at her in annoyance.
“Can’t you walk faster? We have been waiting for you for two minutes, and you have the guts to stroll!”
Selina jumped at her father’s voice and tried to walk faster. She knew he was only yelling at her to appear like a father with an iron hand and for her to appear gentle and helpless in front of the Rafael family.
.
She went to one of the empty sofas and sat down; her head hung low.
Her father turned to face the Alberto family.
“So now that you have seen her, I hope the marriage deal can be finalized,” he said.
Mr. Rafael, the father of the proposed fiancé, said:
“Yes, we have seen her. She’s quite pretty and looks as obedient as we want, so we are good to go.”
Mrs. Rafael eyed Alissa suspiciously.
“Is she as tamed as she looks? I don’t want a situation where she suddenly becomes stubborn with my son. We asked for her because we wanted someone who could please and tolerate my son.”
“Ah, Yes! This one? She can't do anything. She will be very obedient and submissive to her husband. Right, Selina?” Aaron asked and stared at her as if daring her to refute his words.
“Yes…Yes, Father,” Selina replied, still looking down.
“So Sebastian, do you like her?” Sebastian's mom asked.
Sebastian nodded.
Mrs. Rafael turned to her other son, Caswell.
“What about you, Caswell?”
Carson had not looked up from his phone since he had gotten there. He was as disinterested in the whole affair as Selina.
“Huh?” he looked up, his blue eyes gleaming in the light.
“Yes, Yes,” he said, pressing his phone.
“Are you sure?” his father asked.
Caswell looked up from his phone, annoyed.
“Dad, you’ve made me lose this game now. Were you deaf when I said 'Yes'?”
Silence descended on the room as Mr. Rafael's face reddened with embarrassment.
“How dare you talk to me like that?!”
“Old man, just leave me alone.”
Mr. Rafael turned to his wife, his eyes red with fury.
“Rina! Do you see what your son is doing?”
“Calm down. Maybe Caswell is just in a bad mood,” said Mrs. Rafael, trying to calm her husband.
Sebastian just snorted and ignored their drama, looking at his watch.
Everyone knew what a spoiled brat Caswell, Sebastian's younger brother was. Not only was he spoiled, but he was also a very mean bully who revealed bullying others.
Unknown to Selina's family members, Selina knew Carson before this meeting. Caswell and Selina used to attend the same middle school, and he was her biggest bully.
Because of Selina's small stature and shyness, she was constantly picked on in school. She was the plain girl who wore rags to school and was bullied by everyone.
Caswell was the coolest boy in school. He was the son of the most influential man in the city and also very handsome, so people flocked around him, making him arrogant and full of himself.
He had caused so many problems for Selina in school that she had been so happy when he and his family moved, and he didn’t show up at school again. Selina believed they would never meet again, but she was wrong.
They met again last month when the Rafael family first visited her home. Sebastian wanted to show his family members to his future wife's family. She had pretended not to be around, though, and decided to spy on their conversation instead. She remembered how shocked she had been, hiding behind the staircase and watching the two families discuss her future as if it belonged to them and not to her. She had not revealed herself to them yet, but Caswell had spotted her from her hiding place. She had fled to her room after that.
She did not want to marry Sebastian. He looked fierce. And if he had a nasty brother like Caswell, what if he was worse? After all, he was the older one, and the younger one always followed the older one's footsteps.
Also, marrying him would mean marrying into this horrid family. She hated his mother but had already hated Caswell before, and she dreaded being closer to him.
Though a few years had passed and Caswell looked older, she could see he still had that wicked streak.
Caswell had been very violent in school, using his fist at every opportunity. He had used it on her when they were both in high school. What if Sebastian was like that, and he did worse when they got married?
To divorce and separate from such an influential person would be very difficult.
Selina could not imagine being bound to someone who might be the worst version of Caswell.
“Selina!”
Selina looked up and realized everyone was staring at her. What for?
“Huh?”
She blinked, confused.
“Are you deaf? He asked you a question!” her father roared.
“Who?”
Everyone in the room gasped in surprise. Mrs. Rafael turned to Marcus, frowning.
“You told me she was tame. How could she speak to my husband like that?”
Husband?
Selina was still confused. It was after a few seconds that she realized Mr. Rafael had asked her a question and her response of 'Who?' sounded like a sarcastic reply.
Everyone in the room except Sebastian and James glared at her.
“Dinner's ready!”
One of the maids interrupted the session, announcing that the dinner was ready.
Marcus said with a fake smile to his guests:
“Please, follow me to the dining room, and let us have dinner together.”
Everyone went to the dining room to have dinner. They chatted over dinner, mainly about the affairs of the pack and other matters.
